About Tommy
Tommy Profile Tommy, a delightful little Teterfield Terrier who is full of energy, affection and absolute fuh.
Tommy is a petite and lightweight canine, weighing just 3.8 kilograms at the tender age of eight months. He is a dog who thrives on being part of a loving family, cherishing every moment spent inside the home and staying as close as possible to his beloved humans.
INTERACTIONS WITH HUMANS During his time in foster care, Tommy has been living with a household that includes two adults, two teenagers, and his four-legged foster sibling. He has shown an immense affection for people and has a strong desire to be showered with love and attention. Whether it’s receiving gentle pats while sitting on a lap or enjoying a good tummy rub, Tommy is always eager to be doted upon. He has a charming habit of following his humans around the house, and he is particularly quick to make his way into the kitchen, where he likes to oversee any food preparation activities! FAVORITE THINGS
Tommy has discovered a variety of activities that bring him joy. He enjoys playtime with his four-legged foster sister, going for walks, and indulging in tasty treats like hoofs and smackos. However, what he cherishes most is being indoors with his human family, staying close to them. In his foster home, he has developed a fondness for playing fetch and engaging with squeaky toys. Being part of a family has brought him immense happiness, and he greets everyone with boundless excitement when they return home from their day at work or school.
OBEDIENCE/TRAINING When Tommy first arrived in foster care, he had no prior training, including toilet training. He will need a family that is willing to invest time and energy into formal training, which is made easier by his strong motivation for treats. In his foster home, he has been learning commands like “on your bed” and “down.” He is still in the process of mastering “sit”. While he is making progress, he is still requiring some training so a family must be committed to do so! Tommy walks well on a harness and generally enjoys greeting other dogs, although he is equally content to simply walk past them. Tommy is best suited to short, familiar walking routes, gradually building his confidence over time.
SOCIAL SKILLS/INDEPENDENCE Tommy is a true “velcro dog,” meaning he loves attention, cuddles, and affection. He has had several car rides in a dog seat and travels well without experiencing car sickness. His primary desire is to be with his humans, wherever they may go. He is able to be left at home while his family works. FOOD/BATHING/HYGIENE/SLEEPING/EXERCISE Tommy has a short easy to care for coat. In foster care, he has had several baths, and while he may not enjoy them, he handles them well. He is fed two meals a day, consisting of dry food in the morning and a combination of dry food and chicken or prime roll for dinner. Occasionally, he can be a bit of a food connoisseur, always curious about what his humans are eating and hoping for a taste. Tommy enjoys a daily walk and sleeps either in his foster parents’ bedroom on a dog bed or in one of the teenagers’ rooms on her bed. Tommy is making progress with toilet training, but he still has some way to go. It is crucial for him to be taken outside regularly as he continues to learn. After his last toilet break around 9:30 to 10:00 PM, he likes to go once overnight and then early morning so a doggy door may be of benefit to him. He settles back into his bed easily after these outings. Sometimes, you may need to accompany him outside for toilet breaks, as he worries about being left outside and may try to stay indoors, leading to accidents. His forever family will need to be patient, consistent, and provide reassurance as he continues to learn.
INSIDE THE HOME Tommy has been an indoor and outdoor dog, with access to the inside of the house while his humans are at school and work. He has shown no destructive behaviors, either inside or outside. To keep him entertained when left alone, he will need toys and mental stimulation. Tommy is an active pup with plenty of energy, but he also enjoys relaxing on the couch in the evening, snuggling next to his humans and enjoying some downtime. Tommy is a lovely little dog who has overcome a challenging start in life. His love for humans and desire for their attention radiates resilience, trust, and unconditional love. From his forever family, Tommy requires training, love, and affection to help him overcome the hardships of his past.
MEDICAL ISSUES Tommy has been vaccinated, desexed, and microchipped. He has also undergone a basic veterinary check-up to ensure his health and well-being.
IDEAL HOME Tommy is seeking a home that has the time and commitment to continue his training journey. A patient and understanding family will allow him to blossom into the beautiful little dog he is already becoming. Tommy would thrive in a family that is happy to have him inside, providing plenty of cuddles and adventures. He would benefit from exposure to different environments to build his confidence. While Tommy would do well as an only dog if left home for long hours, he would also benefit from having a companion to share his joy and adventures.
Setting him up for success ( Adoption Criteria)
To set him up for success we feel the most suitable home is as follows
A home with a medium to larger size backyard with grass, shelter, and secure fencing
Tommy would absolutely thrive in a home with another playful energetic little dog who can be his BFF
A home with kids is fine as he adores them but they must be dog savvy and mature
A home that will allow him to be an inside / outside dog
Not tested with cats but young enough to learn
A daily walk. Short walks while he is a puppy and his bones are developing.and a home that loves to train younger dogs
