Hi, my name’s Gnocchi and I’m looking for my new people. My current
family really loves me but we’ve had some changes here that have
stressed me out a bit. So, after a long talk about it, we’ve all
decided a new home is the best option for me.
I am pretty smart and I love my people. When you’re around, I like to
be near you and I absolutely love my daily walks. I also LOOOOVE a game
of frisbee so it’s great if I have a backyard or safe park to do this
with you.
I really enjoy meeting other people and pups out and about and am pretty
polite when I’m on my lead. I also know to come when I’m called,
although we’ll need to work on that together so I know you are my
go-to people. I’m fine with occasional visits from friends, but I do
like my routines and a quieter life at home. We have a new little person
here and my people have realised I find lots of activity and movement
pretty stressful, and I don’t love people grabbing my stuff.
Apparently, I do something called ‘resource guarding’ (which I’ve
done all my life but it’s a bit worse now), which means I’m better
off as the only dog at home, and with bigger humans.
I know about where to do my business and I am used to spending some time
on my own when my people are at work. I prefer to be indoors where I can
snooze in the sun and I’m okay holding if there isn’t a doggy door
(but I know how to use one – like I said, I’m smart). I must admit I
don’t love riding in the car and sometimes it can make me a bit sick!
I’d love to find a way to get over this, maybe with some help from the
vet and my new people. I am not a huge fan of being handled a lot
(although I love a cuddle on your bed), but I know I can’t look this
good without regular grooming and have always been a good boy when
getting this done by professionals or my family.
Gnocchi is a really terrific and typically friendly dog who is looking
for an adult home or home with teens where he can love his people, enjoy
the daily routines and be himself. His resource guarding and other
anxieties (eg periodic barking at the postie) will need ongoing
management so he will be best suited to a dog-savvy home where people
are able to give him love and boundaries in equal measure. One of Vic
Dog Rescue’s behaviourists has met with Gnocchi and provided some
strategies to help, which we can share with his adopters.
Gnocchi is keen to get on with his next chapter so if you think you are
the people for him, please don’t delay in submitting an application.
Please note: our dogs are not available for interstate adoption. We also do not adopt to people under the age of 25 years.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped,
wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals,
surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm
testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If
a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.

Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.

Please note that we do not take/make telephone calls prior to receiving an application.
Commonly asked questions and their answers are provided when you email us. Unfortunately we usually will not have time to reply to enquiries in more detail and will give priority to completed applications over enquiries. Priority will also be given to typed applications which are easier for us to read and to copy relevant parts.
We look forward to receiving your application.
