Meet Puffin,
Puffin is the kind of dog who makes every day feel a little lighter and a lot brighter! With his gentle nature, affectionate spirit, and always-happy tail wags, Puffin is ready to be the four-legged best friend you’ve been waiting for.
Whether you’re a first-time dog owner or a seasoned pet parent, Puffin fits right in. He’s adaptable and easy going, making him a great match for just about any home — big, small, quiet, or busy.
This sweet boy is friendly with everyone he meets and has a sensitive soul that makes him especially in tune with the people around him. He loves being part of whatever’s going on — whether it’s morning cuddles, a stroll around the block, or just hanging out together doing nothing much at all.
Puffin will need regular brushing/grooming - we have had him groomed as he was covered in mats & knots when he first came in. So regular professional grooming should be taken into consideration.
If you’re looking for a dog who brings kindness, warmth, and a whole lot of love to your life, Puffin might just be your perfect match.
Ideal Home: Puffin is suitable to live in any property type, yard size is of no concern either, just as long as the fencing is high and secure.
Family: Puffin is open to meet kids of any age. He is gentle and sweet and would make a great friend for kids.
Puffin is fine to live with people who work full-time hours as he shows no signs of separation anxiety. He is independent and able to spend time on his own without any issues. He can be in the yard on his own too but would also love to be inside with his new family too.
Furry Friends: Puffin is dog selective when it comes to making friends with other dogs. He's very social when it comes to smaller breed dogs, or dogs of a similar size to him but with larger dogs he is ok to be around them and walk by them but he does not want to interact with them.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Puffin would go living with/meeting cats and pocket pets - this would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Puffin would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience.
With additional training and time to settle into a new routine, Puffin could be the type of dog that you can take to a dog friendly café or social setting.
Puffin is still learning his name but he knows commands such as: sit. He is food motivated and is quite gentle when taking them from you - so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Puffin has mid-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 20-30mins every other day to keep him happy and healthy. Puffin doesn't seem interested in playing with toys. He prefers going for a walk, cuddles or spending time with his handler.
Puffin walks very well on lead, and knows how to loose lead walk, too. He is fine to be walked on either a harness or collar.
Staff Comments: Puffin can be a little timid when meeting new people but we have seen a lot of improvement each and every day. Puffin loves to be around you, near you, or on you. He loves people so much.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
The adoption fee for dogs covers C5 vaccination, health check, heartworm testing, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
