Nature
Mateo is a beautiful boy; he just needs some time to realise that there is nothing to be scared of. We are unsure what this lovely boy's beginnings were, but he just needs time to trust humans and realise they are here to love him, not hurt him. He does not have an aggressive bone in his body, but when you approach him, he will give a little hiss. His Foster Mum has been working on helping him with this stress, and over the weeks, she has seen a huge improvement. He can now sit on her lap without trying to jump off and run away. At the beginning, he did not purr—now, after a few minutes, he starts to relax and give a little purr. There is a real smooch waiting to come out of this little boy; he just needs a little time and patience.

Companions (Children, Cats & Dogs)
Presently, Mateo is living in a foster home with other foster kittens and resident cats. There is also a medium-sized dog, whom he has walked past a few times—he doesn’t seem too bothered, just gives him a wide berth. His Foster Mum and Dad are home most of the day, and he loves to watch the world go by. As he’s come out of his shell, he has shown more interest in toys and has started engaging in play with the other kittens.

Likes / Dislikes
✅ Creamy treats are the way to his heart; he absolutely loves them.

❌ Loud noises and sudden movements are still a little scary. He likes to be approached slowly, and after a little hiss he will sometimes try and run away, but once you have him firmly in your arms he starts to relax.

My PURR-fect home would be with a parent who understands timid kittens and is prepared to spend a little time with me, especially at the beginning, so I can settle in. Having another confident cat or kitten to show me the way would be purrfect. Once settled, I will be the happiest boy.

Perth Rescue Angels recommends all cats are indoor only, unless they have access to a secure cat enclosure.

If you would like to apply to adopt Mateo please come meet him at Better Pets & Gardens Midland this Saturday from 10am until 2pm. He will be ready to go home with the first suitable family.
