About Freddie
Meet Freddie – Your Sweet, Quirky Little Sidekick!
Freddie's requirements in his new home :
- Another small desexed dog (not senior) living in the home is a must.
- A fully fenced yard
- Further training around confidence building, recall, loose leash walking, and toilet training.
- A calm patient family.
- Frequent grooming at the groomers (6 weekly) or experienced home groomers with all the right equipment.
- People home often.
- No children in the home under 12, or people with mobility issues.
Freddie is a gentle soul who’s just beginning to discover how fun life can be. When he first came into care, he was underweight, quiet and low on energy. But this little guy has come a long way, and he’s gained weight and built up some muscle. Slowly but surely he’s learning to enjoy the world around him.
While Freddie is still building confidence and hasn’t had much training, we’ve started basics and he’s slowly finding his feet (and personality!). He’s a lovable mix of calm couch potato and energetic explorer. One minute he’s curled up by your feet or perched in his favourite spot watching TV, and the next he’s zooming around the yard in a burst of playful energy.
Because he’s still learning recall and is incredibly fast, Freddie must always be on lead in unfenced areas. He’s too quick to catch if you chase him, but he usually comes back on his own if you don’t. With his fine, delicate little bones and a habit of weaving around your feet, he isn’t suited to homes with young children, frail seniors, or anyone who might need physical stability.
Freddie’s a bit of a scatterbrain, but in the most charming way. He thrives with a calm, patient, happy-go-lucky owner. Someone who can help him relax and feel safe. He loves a good chat (barks), and enjoys telling a story or two. He also likes joining in on singing and dancing in his own hilarious way. His long legs and nimble paws make for some truly comical poses, and he’s guaranteed to keep you smiling. He’s just beginning to explore toys and likes a little playtime with you. While he occasionally mouths when excited, he’s always gentle and responds well to calm correction.
Freddie is a high-maintenance boy when it comes to grooming. His daily routine includes eye cleaning, brushing, and regular trims around the eyes and bum. He’ll also need a full clip every month or so. He walks using a training slip lead (which comes with him), and also enjoys running with other dogs from a waist lead. He travels well in the car with a seatbelt harness and enjoys outings to new places. He does pull on lead and needs guidance, but he’s improving with consistency. New environments can make him nervous at first, but with reassurance and patience, his confidence grows quickly.
Although Freddie will tolerate a crate, he’s not crate-trained and becomes stressed if left in it for too long. He doesn’t like being left alone and would be happiest with another small, friendly adult dog (not a senior) to show him the ropes and help him feel safe. He’s just recently started the occasional bark, but it’s easily managed with calm correction.
Freddie has been incredibly respectful of the animals he currently lives with which include small dogs, goats, chickens, ducks and even a free-range indoor galah! He’s never shown aggression, never snapped, and has never attempted to bite. His toilet routine includes morning, daytime, and nighttime potty breaks, and he also uses Potty Buddy pads indoors. While he’s still learning, he wears a male dog pee nappy inside to help avoid accidents.
Freddie is full of potential and is lovable, funny, and endlessly curious. With the right home, a gentle routine, and a doggy buddy to show him the way, this little guy will blossom into a joyful, loyal companion.
