About Hugo
Meet Hugo, a cute little adventurer with a big personality and an even bigger heart, wrapped up in a 6kg body of Chihuahua + Mini Foxie charm. At just 3 years old, Hugo is full of playful energy, a love for the outdoors, and just the right dash of mischief to keep you smiling.
Hugo came into care from a hoarding situation and was very shut down and unsure of the world when he first arrived. Hugo has had all his vet work completed whilst in care and gaining confidence each day with the help of his amazing foster mum and dad.
Hugo is a sensitive little soul who's still learning to trust the humans in his world. While he may not be ready for pats and cuddles just yet, he absolutely adores the company of other dogs. Whether he's zooming around the backyard, tossing toys in the air, or playing an enthusiastic game of chase with his foster siblings, Hugo’s happiest when he's got a buddy to burn off energy with. His favourite pastime, you asked? Roaming the yard, finding sun patches for a good snooze, and keeping a safe distance while observing his humans with quiet curiosity.
Toilet training is going well—Hugo uses pee pads at night and will head outside during the day. As long as he’s got clean mats, accidents have been few and far between.
Hugo hasn’t been tested with a doggy door, and while he’s not crate trained, he’ll happily retreat to a comfy crate or quiet nook when he needs a moment to himself.
Hugo is still working on his confidence when it comes to being handle, held ,pats by his humans. At this stage, he doesn’t tolerate being picked up or touched, and for that reason, a calm, patient, adult-only with another dog friendly home is a must.
Hugos foster carers have been gently earning his trust with food, and let’s just say, Hugo is very food motivated. He’s already started taking treats from their hands and will follow them around the house, curious about what they’re doing, even if he bolts the moment they notice, with an expressive look of " Oh, they noticed me, quick run"!
While Hugo isn’t ready for walks or leash adventures just yet, he’s more than content with a secure yard where he can run, explore, and engage on his terms. He’ll bark occasionally, usually in protest if asked to come inside when he’s mid-zoom or feeling overwhelmed, but he’s otherwise a fairly quiet little guy.
Hugo will get there on his own terms and time frame and he show so much potential; he just needs a home to truly be able to blossom at his own pace.
He needs a gentle, understanding home that can offer consistency, space, and time. He’s not the "snuggle on the couch" type yet, but every small milestone is a reason to celebrate. With patience, kindness, and a friendly dog or two to show him the ropes, Hugo has all the makings of a loyal, quirky companion.
If you believe in giving the shy ones a chance?
Then Hugo might just be the quiet spark your home is missing.

Once an adoption enquiry is completed our admin team will assess the application and if successful we will arrange for a meet and greet to be completed. We may also request photos of your yard for consideration of your application. Please note that we will do no more than 3 meet and greets per dog.
Approved applicants will be contacted to arrange a time for a meet & greet via email. You must bring your current dog along to the meeting if you are meeting another dog/puppy, this is to ensure they get along before commencing adoption - proof of your dogs up-to-date vaccination is required before any meet and greet is arranged.
Our adoption fee must be cleared in our bank account before any animal is available for pick up. Please note we bank with ANZ - any other bank may take 48 hours to process the monies.
Paw Prints Canine Rescue has a 10 day trial period – this basically means that if for any reason the adoption does not work out and the dog needs to be returned to us, the adoption fee minus an admin fee (minimum is $250) will be returned to the adoptees via bank transfer within 7 working days.
Please note that if an interstate adoption needs to be returned or regional adoption all transport cost with be paid by the adopter.
Please also note while this can be a very exciting time for everyone, it can also be an overwhelming time for dogs and we ask that you do try and allow your new family member to settle in their new home and adjust
INTERSTATE ADOPTIONS **
Any transport costs are to be paid by the adopting family, however we can assist you in helping with transport to airports etc.
** Please note some of our dogs are not available for interstate adoption
