Pierogi is exactly what her name suggests: a warm, squishy, irresistible little dumpling. Or maybe a fluffy cloud. Or a marshmallow. Or a tiny polar bear. Either way, she’s just as magical as she sounds. Still a baby, but already bursting with personality, mischief, and bold puppy energy.

She was born with microphthalmia and bilateral congenital cataracts, so her vision is limited — but honestly, someone forgot to tell her that. She can see light and shadows, and Pierogi thinks she’s invincible. Nothing fazes her. She barrels through life like a dog who can see into the future. It’s all she’s ever known, and she doesn’t miss a beat. Once she finds her feet (literally), she’s off exploring like she owns the place, figuring things out as she goes.

Like any respectable Akita pup, Pierogi has opinions. She’s confident. She’s dramatic. She’s mouthy and nosy and will absolutely insert herself into your business — and probably try to chew it too. She’s already toilet trained and is currently in foster care with two adult dogs (including a fellow Akita who’s very patiently showing her the ropes).

She’s quite social with dogs at this age, but like most Akitas, she may grow to prefer select dog friends over a social free for all. Akitas aren’t generally known for being overly dog social as adults. Ongoing, structured socialisation and calm, positive experiences will be crucial to help her grow into a well adjusted adult.

And while she’s currently a soft, roly-poly baby, she won’t stay that way forever. She’ll grow into a large, strong, headstrong dog and will need a handler who’s equally confident — someone who understands that training, boundaries, and love all go hand in hand.

Akitas are not your average dog. They’re independent thinkers — clever, loyal, and often a bit weird (in the best possible way). If you’re after a people-pleaser, off-lead-at-the-park kind of dog, an Akita may not be for you. Akita experience would be amazing; but at the very least, a solid understanding of the breed is essential. If you haven’t owned one before, it’s important to do your homework and decide whether an Akita is truly the right fit for your lifestyle.

Pierogi needs a home where she’s included in everyday life — the routines, the little adventures, the cuddles on the couch. She’ll thrive with calm, confident people who see training as an ongoing part of life, and who value connection as much as structure.

Her eye condition doesn’t require treatment at this stage — just regular check-ups to ensure everything stays healthy and comfortable. We’ll talk you through all the details.
