About Tommy ⚽ stumpy-tail cattle, 1yo (adopted 20/7/25)
Meet Tommy – a one-of-a-kind stumpy-tail cattle dog with soulful eyes, a big heart, a spirited personality and loads of potential. He is one year old, very smart, easy to train, healthy, active, loyal, and very affectionate…and handsome!
He’s house trained, uses a doggy door, is unfazed by storms, sleeps peacefully through the night, and is good in the car.
Tommy loves the mental challenge of training. He shows off his manners by coming when called, sitting, staying, and waiting for his food.
Tommy was found as a stray and was quite timid when rescued. Despite his progress so far, his is still cautious in new situations. The bustle of his foster household with eight people and constant visitors isn't suitable for his sensitive soul.
🏠 What Tommy needs now is more calm and settled foster home or forever home. He’ll thrive with a single woman or a quiet couple who are home often and ready to be his safe space. In the right environment, this loyal and affectionate boy will be your devoted shadow—always nearby, always ready for a cuddle, a nuzzle, or a fun game.
🐶 Tommy loves other dogs and gains a lot of confidence from them. He likes playing and would benefit from the company of another playful dog who enjoys a good chase and some friendly rumbling in the yard. Tommy has natural guarding instincts and will let you know when intruders approach but he isn’t a nuisance barker. He is working on perfecting his lead manners. With some more training he will become your perfect walking companion.
💡ADOPT or FOSTER or FOSTER THEN ADOPT
Tommy is looking for a foster home or forever home with someone who can see past his initial shyness and recognise the gem underneath. With time, consistency, and care, his potential is boundless.
👫 Tommy’s Ideal Home
❇ A secure yard to explore and play.
❇ A calm, quiet environment to help him feel safe.
❇ Has a friendly dog, or regular play dates with other dogs.
❇ An owner who is often home and able to provide stimulation and routine.
❇ A family that understands working breeds and is patient with anxious behaviours.
❇ No young kids or a high-traffic household.
❓ Not ready to commit to adoption? You can foster Tommy while he waits for his forever home. But if that forever home turns out to be with you then you can adopt him yourself. There is no cost to you to foster, just the willingness to open your home and heart to a special boy who’s ready for his fresh start.
While fostering Tommy, Dog Rescue Newcastle will provide:
- Food
- Toys, kennel, bedding
- Vet care
- Medication
- Help from a trainer
- A caring community of rescue volunteers to support you.
😍 If you’re ready to be part of Tommy’s journey, we’d love to hear from you. Let’s help this brave, beautiful boy find his happy-ever-after.
