Meet Demmi - A worried sweetheart learning that the world can be a safe and happy place

Demmi is a gentle 2-year-old tabby girl who arrived at the shelter as a stray on 9th May, 2025. For three long months, she waited patiently in the busy adoptions centre, watching other cats get adopted while she remained overlooked - confused by the sudden changes in her life and uncertain of her future.

The shelter staff knew there was a special cat tucked away behind her shy exterior, and decided she would be best placed in foster care to find her confidence, and hopefully, her new home. When I brought her into foster care, she was deeply traumatised and timid, constantly in fight-or-flight mode. But every single day, she unlocks new cute acts and makes small breakthroughs. She's not a 'ready-made house cat' who will immediately jump into your lap and purr, but when she slowly emerges from hiding to headbutt your hand or cautiously approaches for yummy food (her absolute favourite motivator!), you'll absolutely feel your heart melt.

This quiet girl spends much of her time resting in safe, hidden spots, though she's gradually becoming more comfortable. She grooms herself beautifully and never causes trouble - no midnight zoomies or furniture scratching here! While she's still learning how to be a cat and understand that the world can be safe, she never hisses or swipes when scared.

Demmi has FIV, so she'll need to be an indoor-only cat with annual vet checkups (like any cats). She might do wonderfully with another calm FIV+ cat who could help teach and mentor her confidence. A quiet home with patient, empathetic and understanding humans (perhaps retired adopters, WFH individuals, people with a calm and predictable routine) would be ideal - people who will celebrate each small victory as she learns to understand that the world is safe and fun, and she can learn to feel contentment, happiness, and eventually some kitty sassiness.
