About Buddy
PLEASE NOTE THAT WE CANNOT FLY OUR ANIMALS IN WA OR INTERSTATE
**Before applying, please remember that adopting a puppy into your home is a huge commitment, and very demanding of your time. Puppies require daily exercise, positive and varied socialisation, grooming, training and playtime. When applying, please consider your work hours, holidays, and how busy your personal life is. Puppies will need someone who is home for most of the day with regular focused input, especially in those first six months after adoption **
NAME: Buddy
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound with his mum Ruby.
BREED: Jack Russell x
BREED TRAITS: Jack Russells are lively, independent and clever. They are trainable but have a mind of their own and if bored can dig and chew. Terriers are devoted to their people, affectionate and love being with them so cannot be left for long periods. . Careful and sensitive socialisation from a young age is a must as they are small dogs with big personalities.
**************************************************************************
ASSETS: Easy going, affectionate, friendly, confident, sweet and playful.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Buddy loves to play tug of war and loves his toys. He also loves to play wrestle with his mum and foster carer. He is a typical puppy with bursts of energy where he plays for a while then settles down with his mum or person for a snuggle and snooze before waking up and doing it all over again!
ENDEARING FEATURES: Buddy is an inquisitive boy and is very loyal. He picks up new things very easily and is very affectionate, lapping up all the cuddles he can get.
OTHER ANIMALS: Being a young puppy, he will get on well with other friendly dogs after gentle, supervised introductions. He could live with a dog-savvy, confident cat, again after gentle introduction – as a playful pup he will probably want to chase so the cat would need to be in charge!
GENERAL INFO: Buddy will need training for pretty much everything being so young but generally picks new things up very easily. He isn’t a fan of loud noises so would be better in a calm home. He is housetrained in his foster home but expect accidents while he’s settling into his new home and routine. He does dig in the garden, a trait which he’s learnt from his mum but he also can’t walk in public yet as he hasn’t had all his vaccinations and so is probably a little bored in the garden – once he can go out and about the world will open up for him. He rarely barks and will benefit greatly from puppy school and ongoing classes into adulthood where he can learn and mix with other dogs - this is a commitment we will expect from his new owner. We expect Buddy to be small when fully grown, like his mum, but there are no guarantees as dad is not known.
ESSENTIALS for Buddy:
** an active, loving home where someone is there for most of the day, essential in the first six months after adoption
** a home where he is treated as part of the family and is allowed to be inside or out as he needs and to sleep inside at night
** a decent sized, well fenced garden where he can run, play, sniff and explore in safety
** attendance at puppy school and continued training into adulthood for him to learn and grow confidence – essential
** continued positive, gentle exposure and socialisation
Buddy will have bursts of energy while a pup and we envisage will be medium to high energy at times as an adult dog.
Buddy has not lived with children but we feel he could live with dog-savvy gentle children over 10 years of age, depending on experience, who will be calm and play gently with him and know when to give him space to relax and chill. Buddy could also live with another young, playful dog.
If Buddy sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
