About Chop
UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Chop (weight 14.2kgs)
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound
BREED: Jack Russell x Border Collie
Breed Traits: Jack Russells are lively, independent and clever. They are trainable but have a mind of their own and if bored can dig and chew. Terriers are devoted to their people, affectionate and love being with them so cannot be left for long periods. . Careful and sensitive socialisation from a young age is a must as they are small dogs with big personalities.
Border Collie originally bred to herd sheep they are a sensitive breed that needs company. Affectionate with family and people friendly. Highly intelligent and easy to train they need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation – they are not cuddly couch potatoes and need a job. They will herd anything that moves such as children, cars, bikes etc. They need an active owner, not a novice owner.
**************************************************************************
ASSETS: Easy going, affectionate, eager to please, obedient, active and playful! He’s a gorgeous boy with a great energy about him and he’s very quick to learn new things.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Chop loves car rides, trips to the beach, going on walks, playing with his toys and lives for pats, scratches and cuddles with his people.
ENDEARING FEATURES: Chop is incredibly affectionate and enjoys being by your side, whether you’re relaxing on the couch or busy around the house. He’s very obedient and picks up new things easily.
OTHER ANIMALS: Chop will need to be the only pet in his new home as he isn’t a fan of other dogs and hasn’t been tested around cats and small animals.
GENERAL INFO: Chop generally walks well on the lead but if he sees another dog he may bark and try to lunge. Chop has been working hard with his carer and trainer and has improved immensely but he will need continued training to reduce his reactivity. He is housetrained and will bark when someone is at the door or at times when he sees other animals while out and about. He does scratch at the door but hasn’t been destructive in his foster home. Chop is crate trained and sleeps in his crate overnight. He has a medium energy level and being a smart cookie knows most commands.
ESSENTIALS for Chop:
** an active, loving home where someone is there for at least part of the day,
** a home where he is treated as part of the family and is allowed to be inside or out as he needs and to sleep inside at night
** a decent sized, well fenced garden where he can run, play, sniff and explore and is safely contained being a priority
** Chop requires regular walks and exercise to burn off his energy and keep his active brain satisfied
** Chop’s new owner must be committed to continuing Chop’s training and understand the necessity of keeping Chop on lead when out in the community. Chop is not a “dog park” dog as he was not taught to be social as a young dog - he is very happy to be with his human.
Chop could live with dog-savvy gentle children over 10 years of age, depending on experience, who will play and interact with him but know when to give him space. He is currently being fostered with children and is very gentle with them. Chop could also live with an older adult who would have the time for his exercise, training and give him the companionship he craves.
If Chop sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
