Teddy

Teddy may look like a classic Kelpie, but he brings with him the independent and thoughtful nature of a Maremma.

With limited exposure to the outside world, Teddy is still building his confidence, but he has a warm and gentle nature that shines through once he feels safe. Teddy is friendly and enjoys human company, although he can be a little wary of new things. He's food motivated, which helps with building trust and training, and he'll even engage in a game of tug once he's had a good sniff of the toy. Teddy already knows how to sit and walks on lead with a bit of pulling - he enjoys being out and about, even if the world can feel a little big sometimes.

Teddy shows fear around other dogs, and as such has to be the only dog in his household. While he may manage slightly better with smaller dogs, his responses are still rooted in fear. His limited socialisation history is evident, but with gentle support and patience, Teddy has shown he can bounce back and continue to grow in confidence.

Teddy will thrive in a calm, Maremma-savvy, adult only or teenage home that understands the needs of guardian breeds. He would do best with someone willing to take things at his pace and help him continue to gain confidence through gentle exposure and positive reinforcement. A quiet environment where he can decompress, build relationships, and gain new experiences at a comfortable pace will help him blossom.
