About Lainey
This gorgeous girl Lainey is a dainty little Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, who is 2 years and 10 months old and just 9kg of pure, soft-eared sweetness.
(Who doesn't love those soft floppy ears)
Lainey has come into care from a breeder who was downsizing and wanted to ensure that all vet work be completed for Lainey and be able to go to the most suitable home based on her needs.
Lainey is the kind of dog who doesn’t rush into things. She takes her time, observes the world quietly, and then, when she’s ready, she gives you a look with those big, soulful eyes that say, “Okay, I trust you now.” And when that moment comes, it’s magical!
Lainey is all about the soft life. Lainey is low-energy, calm, and happiest when she’s nestled beside you on the couch or snoozing in a warm patch of sunlight. She’s not a barker unless something startles her, like a stranger walking into the room too fast or a new sound she’s not quite sure of, though with a few gentle words and a pat, Lainey will settle right back down.
As for toilet training, we are almost there! Lainey is doing really well, though rainy or stormy days can be tricky. In Lainey’s defense, it's more so the wet paws and fur coat she doesn't like, and can you blame her in winter, right!
Lainey needs a family who is patient and is able to guide her with consistency in routine, this will go a long way with Lainey.
Lainey hasn’t tried a doggy door yet, and crate life isn’t really her vibe.
Lainey prefers beds, couches, and being close to her humans or her foster siblings, she trusts.
Lainey absolutely lights up around other dogs. Her confidence grows tenfold when she’s with her foster siblings, and she takes a lot of social cues from them, the rescue will require she goes to a home with another dog.
Lainey has met other small to medium sized dogs, after a shy little sniff, she settles into the group like she’s always been part of the pack.
Lainey hasn’t been cat-tested, but she’s shown no interest in the resident budgie, so we think she’d be respectful around other small pets, given proper introductions.
When it comes to children, Lainey does best with older, gentle, calm children.
Lainey can be a bit uncertain if they run up too quickly or squeal with excitement, and if startled, she may give a little bark, so children need to know they need to be slow and calm. If they crouch down and use a soft voice, she’s more than happy to lean in for a pat. She’s been great with kids aged 14 and up.
We think with the right approach, she’d be okay with kids aged around 10 years or older
As for walking and being on a lead, that's a big No for Lainey. Well, not yet anyway, and that's perfectly OK.
Lainey doesn't even like being put onto a lead, and the moment a lead clips onto her harness, she flattens herself to the ground like a pancake.
Even with the encouragement of chicken and the enthusiastic example of her fur siblings on leads, Lainey is just not ready yet and may never be, and that’s okay. Lainey may simply be a beautiful girl who is happy at home (or carried to the car) and love her family in her little bubble.
Lainey’s ideal family and home won’t mind that she’s more of a garden lounger than a street explorer. She’s perfectly content hanging in the backyard or watching the world go by from a cozy chair.
Her perfect day is simple. A little sun, a comfy spot near her humans, a few pats or treats (preferably chicken), and the quiet company of another gentle dog. She’s not needy, but she loves knowing you’re nearby, and if you’re open to morning snuggles or lazy afternoons side by side, she’ll be right there for it.
One of Lainey cutest quirks is that she actually likes bath time. She’ll calmly sit down in the tub and enjoy the pampering like the gentle little queen she is.
As for the grooming requirements, Lainey does shed, as Cavaliers tend to, their Coats can get quite long, and that means Lainey will require regular grooming every 3 months.
Lainey is pretty tolerant of brushing sessions at home, as long as you listen when she’s had enough. She’s good at letting you know when she needs space and even better at showing you when she’s ready for love and cuddles.
Lainey is a beautiful girl looking for a quiet, patient home where she can continue to blossom at her own pace.
Lainey may not be the life of the party, but she's a gentle soul who will warm any home with all the love she has to offer.
If you have a calm, quiet home, a gentle, friendly dog, and a big heart ready to welcome a shy, sweet, soulful girl.
Then Lainey might just be the one you’ve been waiting for.
