Teto is a gorgeous, snuggly, and wonderfully expressive boy with a huge personality. Equal parts curious explorer and loyal companion, Teto is the kind of cat who will form a deep bond with the right human(s) and become a cherished presence in your life for many years to come.
Teto is looking for a calm, adult-only home—ideally with one or two people who are home most of the day, as he thrives on connection with his trusted humans. He’s not a fan of strangers at first and might hiss if approached too quickly, but if given space and patience, he warms up slowly and surely. Once he knows you, Teto becomes a cheeky, affectionate, and irresistibly cuddly cat who adores being near his favourite people, whether it's for a snuggle, a conversation, or a shared insect hunt!
Personality Highlights:
A huge sweetheart once he feels safe – snuggly, cheeky, and loving
Very vocal with his people: meows, trills, and a deep, happy purr
Curious and intelligent – loves new toys, new smells, and exploring
Polite around meals (no begging!) and responds well to firm but gentle boundaries
Uses his scratching posts beautifully and behaves respectfully around furniture
Can be picked up for short distances when held securely
Sleeps well at night and loves curling up near your feet on the bed or sofa
Teto does best in a gentle, predictable environment. He can get anxious with new people or unexpected movements, so he needs slow introductions, quiet affection, and patience. He’s not suitable for young kids or busy households, but he’ll be an absolute delight in a calm, loving home.
Loves:
- Being stroked (especially along the back) and brushed when relaxed
- Watching birds and snoozing in sunny spots
- Hunting flies, moths, and the occasional rogue spider – with your help!
- Soft blankets, feather toys, rustly paper, and gazing into your eyes
- Sniffing everything (he’s a forensic investigator at heart)
- Grass pots and chewing on garden grass
- A stimulating environment – he’d love a large catio
Dislikes:
- Being touched under the chin
- Too much patting or over-stimulation
- Waiting for dinner (you’ll hear about it!)
- Being caught if he’s in pain – Gabapentin helps with vet trips
Health & Care:
- Healthy and fit at 5.5kg with portion-controlled meals (no free feeding!)
- Eats wet and dry food – but will eat anything if given the chance!
- Needs claw trims every 8 weeks (with a little pre-meds and teamwork)
- Sheds fur, but loves being brushed and stays tidy with regular grooming
- Has a strong hunting instinct – must be indoor-only or have a safe outdoor enclosure
Teto is ready to bond deeply with a kind, cat-savvy person or couple who’ll give him the time and respect he needs to shine. In return, he’ll give you his full heart, keep you company with sweet chatter, and bring daily delight with his goofy antics and genuine affection.
If you’re home a lot and looking for a smart, snuggly, big-personality companion who’ll love you fiercely once he’s settled – Teto just might be your guy.
Medical notes
Note: We are happy to support medication and prescription food by sending $50 per month towards it.
He has had three blocked urinary tract incidents until it was advised by the vet that anxiety was the likely cause and he needed to be put on a special urinary care diet. Since being put on the diet, he has not had any further medical issues.
Special urinary care diet has been advised by the vet. This Hills Prescription Diet C/D Urinary Care range and the Royal Canin Urinary S/O range to prevent crystal build up in his urine.
Fluoxetine ¼ pill once per day crushed into a meal, to treat his anxiety.
Cystophan diet supplement, one mixed in with breakfast and one mixed in with dinner to prevent crystal build up in his urine.
Loxicom is on hand in the fridge in case of urinary symptom flare up (hasn’t been needed since the new diet and since having no other cats in the home).
Gabapentin is also on hand too, to give one to two about two hours before needing to go to a vet or before a lot of people come over. He is now used to being handled at the vet.
Adoption details
Begin by reading our adoption FAQs on our website, here:
https://hazelbrookcatshelter.com.au
If you’d like to proceed, fill out an adoption application on our website. Tell us about yourself and the type of cat(s) you are looking for. Feel free to list specific cats that you are interested in, but it is not necessary. Our goal is to be a matchmaker and help you find the right cat for your family and lifestyle.
If we approve your application, will then arrange a video house interview with one of our adoption councillors. This goes for about 15 minutes.
We then arrange a time to meet the cat in person, either at our shelter or their home with their foster carer. Please note we do not move cats from their known environmnent for a meeting.
If all goes well, you can complete the adoption agreement form and pay the adoption fee.
Once the adoption fee has been received, you can take your cat home and begin your 2-week adoption trial.
During this trial, you may return the cat for any reason. Medical expenses will also be covered by our charity. 50% of the adoption fee can be returned if the adoption trial doesn’t work out. It is our requirement that all cats are vaccinated, microchipped, desexed, and flea-and-worm protected prior to this trial, with all their paperwork handed over when collecting your cat.
We provide support as needed around introducing a new cat to your home.
