Meet Mellow,
Don’t let the name fool you - Mellow’s not just chilled vibes and lazy afternoons (although he does enjoy those too). He’s smart, curious, and full of character. Whether he’s investigating new smells, checking out what you're doing, or giving you that cheeky look, Mellow keeps life interesting.
This confident boy is independent but affectionate, social but with a strong sense of self. He’s friendly and loves being part of the action, but he’s also happy doing his own thing nearby. He’s the kind of dog who doesn’t need constant attention — but when he decides it's time for a cuddle or a play session, you’ll be glad you’re around!
Mellow would suit an active household (although his exercise needs are mild) with experienced dog people. He’s adaptable and would do well in a range of home environments as long as he feels safe and understood. If you’re looking for a clever, affectionate, and slightly sassy little dog to share your days with, Mellow just might be the one to steal your heart.
Ideal Home: Mellow is suitable to live in any property type, and yard size is of no concern either. Just as long as the yard is fully fenced and secure.
Family: Mellow is open to meet kids from 13 years and up. He is fine to spend time in the yard on his own but is the type of dog that can live full time inside the home. Mellow is fine to live with people who work part-time as he is independent and easy-going.
Furry Friends: Mellow is best to be the only dog in the home. While he doesn't seem too concerned by other dogs - we can walk him around other dogs and he can be around other dogs without an issue - he is not interested in being friends with them. He prefers people over dogs. Other dogs also appear to bring out resource guarding tendencies.
As we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure how Mellow would go living with/meeting cats & pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Mellow would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience.
Mellow knows his name, and he knows commands such as: sit. He is food motivated too, and is gentle when taking treats from you - so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Mellow has mid-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 20-30mins every other day to keep him satisfied, content & happy. Mellow doesn't show interest in playing with toys, he prefers walks, cuddles or personal play with his handlers.
Mellow walks well on lead and walks best on a harness.
Staff Comments: Mellow is best suited in a single dog home. He is a lap dog and loves to be around you and near you. He is a good choice for most homes and would be a loving pet to someone who is a little older.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
The adoption fee for dogs covers C5 vaccination, health check, heartworm testing, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
