About Roo
Roo is a happy, friendly dog with an outgoing nature and a quirky personality. Her joy for life is infectious and she makes people smile wherever she goes.
Roo has settled in well to her foster home and while she enjoys the company of the resident dogs, she is always excited to meet and to be with people. She’s an alert, curious dog who often stands up on her hindlegs to check everything out, hence her name "Roo"! Roo is a very playful dog who believes that every day is going to be the best day of her life, so while she is seven years old, she is still very much full of life. She loves playing with a ball and other toys and can happily entertain herself running around with them and throwing them in the air. She does love to chase a ball but hasn’t yet learned to return it straight away, preferring the ball thrower to be fully involved in the game. Her playfulness and energy are quite puppyish and she would love to live with a very playful younger dog. However, Roo has an excellent ‘off switch’ once she is in a quiet place, and she will doze quietly while waiting for the next play/work session to begin.
Although Roo loves to interact with other dogs when out and about, she is still learning that she cannot greet and play with every single dog she sees. She also likes to greet every person she passes in the street, and approaches everyone with a wagging tail. It will be important to her health and happiness that Roo continues to have a very active lifestyle, with lots of mental and physical activity. As a working breed dog, her brain is always on the go, so she will thrive with some more training which will also strengthen her bonds with her new family.
She would love to live with another lively, playful dog but would probably also be happy to be a solo dog, providing she has plenty of mental and physical stimulation. Roo has strong herding instinct although we don’t have any information about her past that would suggest she has been a working dog. She would no doubt love to give herding a try out though! Roo appears to have had little training in the past and is still learning to walk well on lead. She settles quite quickly to walking steadily once her initial excitement about going out wears off. Her recall is excellent as she loves to be with people. Roo is toilet trained and crate trained, and sleeps through the night indoors in her crate.
Roo’s ideal family will be reasonably experienced dog owners who appreciate the attributes of working breeds, or who are keen to learn about these special dogs and willing to spend the time with Roo that she craves.
Roo will bring great joy every day to her forever family, and is looking forward to finding a special person or family who are ready to love her and include her in their active lives.
