Meet Russell,
If you're looking for a dog with big personality in a small package, Russell is your guy! This happy little whirlwind is full of energy, love, and curiosity. Whether he’s trotting beside you on a walk or bouncing around the backyard with a tennis ball, Russell brings excitement and enthusiasm to every moment.
He’s playful, social, and always ready to be part of the action. Russell loves meeting new people and thrives in an environment where there’s lots to do and explore. He’s also super affectionate, a little bit cheeky, and he’s not afraid to ask for belly rubs or a cuddle on the couch after a busy day.
Russell would do best with experienced dog owners who are familiar with the spirited nature of Jack Russell Terriers. He’s adaptable to all kinds of households and would be a great fit for active individuals or families who enjoy staying on the go and keeping their dog’s mind and body active.
If you’re ready for endless entertainment, tail wags, and a best mate who’s always up for the next adventure, Russell might just be the perfect match!
Ideal Home: Russell is suitable to live in any property type, and yard size is of no concern either, just as long as the fencing is high & secure.
Family: Russell is open to meet kids of any age and is fine to spend time in the yard on his own but is capable of living in the home full time, too. Russell is fine to live with people who work full-time as he is independant.
Furry Friends: Russell is dog selective. Russell prefers to interact with dogs that are around his own size and are more calm in nature. He appears to be very uncomfortable around dogs that are larger & boisterous.
As we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure how Russell would go living with/meeting cats & pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Russell would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. Group classes would also be good too, to ensure that the dog social skills Russell already has doesn't go to waste.
Russell is still learning his name, but he knows commands such as: sit. He is food motivated too, and is gentle when taking treats from you - so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Russell has mid to high-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 30-60mins a day to keep him content & happy. Russell shows interest in playing with toys - he likes playing with tennis balls.
Russell walks really well on lead and he is best to be walked on a harness or collar.
Staff Comments: Russell is an easy dog with an easy attitude. Although small he does have lots of energy to burn which is indicative of his breed. He's need someone whose willing to walk him daily and keep his mind active.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
