About Ruby (On Trial)
Ruby went on trial in a new home on 20/6/11. Pls see all our other dogs at www. Dogrescuenewcastle. Com. Au
ruby is a 4 yo maltese (purebred, we think). She's a very quiet, safe and gentle little dog. She loves other dogs, walks, and trips in the car. When you speak to her she twists and turns her head trying very hard to understand what you're saying. She's had a very bad start in life and is timid of strangers. When a new person comes to the house she wags her tail and is very happy to see them, but stays in her bed and waits to be approached. If she gets a bit frightened she never nips, she just runs behind her foster mum. . . . Ruby was used as a breeding machine and didn't have any loving care for the first years of her life until she was rescued. So she is only now learning to trust people. She's been in foster carer for over 3 months and has been getting lots of gentle tlc from her foster mum. Ruby has made tremendous progress and is now relaxed and happy and a very endearing little sweetheart. She wags her tail and seems very happy now. She's not one to come up to you, but if you come to her she greets you with a happy wag of her tail. She won't jump on your lap but if you pick her up she will sit on your lap or next to you. She snuggles in bed with her foster mum at night. . . . Ruby had spent her previous years with lots of other dogs so she enjoys their company. She hasn't encountered cats yet but as she has not shown any aggression we expect she'd be fine with them. She doesn't play with toys but sometimes licks one like it was her puppy. She loves her food but can't chew hard biscuits because lack of care by her previous owner has meant that she has had to have many of her teeth removed and only has about 6 left. This doesn't trouble her and she eats quite well. She likes shin bones and smackos for a treat. . . Ruby is fully housetrained. She enjoys spending time outside, but she is an inside dog and sleeps inside. She doesn't fret when left home alone. She hasn't had any basic training other than housetraining, but she is very polite and undemanding. She has learned to walk on a lead but doesn't demand a lot of exercise. She mainly just enjoys your company and will follow you and likes to watch what you're doing. . . . Ruby is safe with children but she doesn't like boisterous, loud activity so she would not be suited to a home with children, though child visitors would be perfectly fine. Ruby's ideal forever home would be with a childless couple or individual who will understand her personality and will be gentle and patient with her. Another dog would be a bonus. She would be fine in an apartment or townhouse as she doesn't require lots of space to run around, just needs to be let out regularly for toileting, and she almost never barks. She is very sweet and to meet her is to lover her. . . . Dog rescue newcastle has rescued other dogs from illegal breeders that have similar issues as ruby and they have all blossomed into loving, treasured family members, and we're confident that ruby will too, as she is almost there now. . . *** please see more photos and videos of ruby at
