About Stumpy
URGENT: Help Needed for Townsville's Cat Crisis
Townsville is currently facing a cat crisis. It is estimated that 30 cats are euthanized every day due to a lack of space in our shelters—over 10,000 cats annually. The local animal shelter is at capacity, and local rescue groups are reluctant to take in cats older than six months due to difficulties in rehoming adult cats. We’re happy to help arrange interstate transport if needed—adopter would just need to cover the costs.
Meet Stumpy 🐾
Stumpy is a brave and resilient boy who survived a devastating accident in the far North Queensland cane fields. Caught in a cane slasher, Stumpy sustained horrific injuries and lost his right hind leg, his tail, and two toes on his front paw.
After extensive surgery to amputate his badly injured leg, Stumpy has made an incredible recovery. Despite everything he’s been through, he remains gentle, affectionate, and full of quiet strength.
Due to his injuries, Stumpy will need to be an indoor-only pet. He’s unable to defend himself or escape from danger, so a safe, secure indoor environment is essential for his continued wellbeing. He is adapting beautifully to life on three legs and is ready for a home that can offer him the love and stability he deserves.
Stumpy's story is one of survival, resilience, and hope. He’s looking for someone who will see past his scars and love him for the incredible soul he is.

Medical notes
Cane has had his right hind leg and tail amputated, and is also missing two toes on his front right paw. Because of these injuries, he must be kept indoors only.
Aside from these physical limitations, Cane has no ongoing medical concerns
