Meet Lucy, a senior Silky Terrier with a unique story and a heart full of untapped love. Having spent her entire life in kennels as a show and breeding dog, Lucy never had the chance to experience a real home or enjoy the simple pleasures of being a pet. When she came into SAFE’s care, she hadn’t been toilet trained, had limited social skills, and was in need of some serious TLC.

Since then, Lucy has undergone a full transformation. She’s been desexed, received a dental clean and extractions, and now has a clean bill of health. She's also learning how to be a dog for the first time—using the doggy door, having fewer accidents, and even engaging more with other dogs. While she was initially said to be not dog-friendly, her foster experience has shown that, with care and supervision, she can get along with other pups on a case-by-case basis.

Quirky, playful, and increasingly confident, Lucy is searching for a calm, quiet home with someone who will cherish her. Her ideal person is mobile and active enough to take her for gentle walks and spend time playing with her. At just over 5kg, she’s pint-sized but may be a trip hazard for anyone with mobility or balance challenges.

One important thing to note—Lucy is a bit of an escape artist. She has a talent for finding the tiniest gaps in fences or gates and squeezing through them for a little neighbourhood adventure. While she rarely strays far and often just visits the neighbours, she’ll need a very secure yard and someone who can keep a close eye on her curiosity.

Lucy will need professional grooming about every six weeks, but she handles this like a pro. She may be a senior, but her best years are still ahead of her—and she’s ready to share them with someone who will finally give her the love and freedom she’s waited a lifetime for.
