Meet Portugal, a gentle and timid soul who is slowly learning that the world can be kind. She and her siblings came from a rough, neglectful past, and as a result, Portugal is still quite scared of new people and environments. Loud noises, sudden movements, or unfamiliar places can leave her frozen or looking for a safe corner to hide in. But underneath her fear is a soft-hearted puppy who wants to trust, she just needs time, patience, and love to come out of her shell.

Portugal will thrive in a quiet, understanding home with a confident, friendly dog to show her the ropes. She takes great comfort in the company of other dogs and will need a canine companion in her forever home to help her build confidence. An adopter who can go at her pace, celebrate the small wins, and provide a stable, secure environment will be Portugal’s hero. With the right support, this little girl has so much love to give, she’s just waiting for the safety to show it.

She is currently living with young kids and a number of other dogs and would love a family home that can give her the ongoing attention and training required to make her the best pup she can be.

She would benefit from having family around more often than not in the initial period, and puppy school would also help her thrive.
