Meet Sweet Pea,
This gentle girl got her name because, well… she’s just that sweet! With a soft little smile on her face and the kindest eyes you’ve ever seen, Sweet Pea is the kind of dog who melts hearts without even trying.
She’s calm, affectionate, and loves nothing more than a quiet home where she can take things at her own pace. A comfy bed, some tummy rubs, and kind words are all it takes to make her tail gently wag.
Sweet Pea is best suited to experienced dog owners who understand that some dogs just need a little extra time and patience. She can be a bit shy and sensitive at first, but once she warms up, she’s incredibly loving, friendly, and just happy to be near you.
She’s not one for rowdy games or wild adventures - this girl prefers the peaceful life. Soft blankets, slow walks, and a relaxed routine are her kind of vibe. If you have a calm and quiet home and a heart big enough for a dog with a soft soul, Sweet Pea might just be your perfect match.
Ideal Home: Sweet Pea is suitable to live in a townhouse, standalone home or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard & high, secure fencing.
Family: Sweet Pea is open to meet kids from 10 years & up - she's a wonderfully sweet & loving dog who adores people but she appreciates calmer children who are a little older.
Sweet Pea is fine to spend time in the yard on her own without any worries. But she'd be most content inside as she loves being around people and having her most prized possession in view (her bed!). She is fine to live with people who work part-time or full-time.
Furry Friends: Sweet Pea is best to be the only dog for now. During her assessment she was fine with the other dog at a distance (so able to walk by and be around other dogs) but she became a little uncomfortable when the distance was closed between her and the other dog. She displayed happy behaviour throughout the assessment but would need a little more socialisation before becoming friends with another dog.
As we cannot test in the environment, we are not sure how Sweet Pea would go living with cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Sweet Pea would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. We have not observed Sweet Pea to have jumping behaviour and she's a fairly easy dog in our opinion. Ongoing socialisation with other dogs would be ideal, too.
Sweet Pea is still learning her name, but she knows commands such as: sit. She is food motivated too and is known to be gentle when taking treats from you - so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea. She loves devon!
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Sweet Pea has low to mid-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise or walks from 30-60mins a day to keep her content. We are yet to find a toy that Sweet Pea is interested in but what we do know is that she adores personal play with her handlers, belly rubs & cuddles. She loves spending quiet moments with you.
Sweet Pea walks well on a lead with minimal pulling. She's known to leisurely walk nicely beside you. She is fine to be walked on either a harness or collars & treats to reward good walking does wonders, too.
Staff Comments: Sweet Pea is known to be quite sweet but was anxious when she first came in. She loves her walks and cherishes going on them and spending time with her handler. She'd do well in any home but a quiet home for this quiet girl would be a match made in heaven.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
The adoption fee for dogs covers C5 vaccination, health check, heartworm testing, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
