Suzie, the very sweet and very chonky border collie is ready to find her forever home.
Her world was turned upside down when her owner passed away and she was due to enter the pound system.
She was clearly loved a little bit too much, as Suzie was over 40kg when she arrived into our care and suffering with severe arthritis and resultant mobility issues.
Since being in care with her devoted foster mum and veterinary nurse, Victoria, she has been able to drop over 3kg and gain some energy and enthusiasm for exercise again.
Suzie’s new home will be devoted to continuing the weight loss journey with her and helping her to manage her sore joints while she gets back to a healthy weight.
Suzie will thrive as an only pet as she’s not very social with other animals when they get in her space. It’s hard to say if this is a preference she has always had or if it is a protective mechanism to prevent herself from getting hurt.
If Susie could spend her whole life getting pats from her human she’d be a very happy girl. She loves when you are home to spend time with her, but entertains herself and is perfectly content by herself when you are at work. So working full time is no issue for her as long as before or after work she gets to spend time with you.
Suzie is house trained, not destructive at all and starting to learn basic commands.
Suzie looks forward to going on her frequent, short walks and is getting further every day. A new home will need to be patient with her and assist her with climbing into and out of the car or onto elevated platforms. She has been fitted with a “Help Em Up Harness” for the past few weeks to aid her with her mobility without causing her discomfort.
Suzie is receiving a combination of nutraceuticals, medication and a prescription weight loss diet to meet all of her health requirements.
If you think you could be a good match for Rosie, please send us a message or an email expressing your interest in adoption.
