About Harry
Harry is a 5-year-old male budgie. After losing his beloved mate, Megan, just a month ago, Harry came to us depressed and fluffed up with squeaky respiratory signs.
He was on an all-seed diet, raising concerns about iodine deficiency and/or chlamydia. Fortunately, after a week of ivermectin treatment, his respiratory signs ceased. A negative chlamydia test confirmed that air sac mites were the most likely cause of his symptoms.
It is possible that Harry has permanent air sac damage, which may lead to exercise intolerance and the occasional squeak during stress or activity. Despite this, he’s bright and building flight fitness in the aviary.
Harry Needs a Home That Offers:
• Companionship of other budgies
• A balanced diet including Passwell crumbles, vegetables, and some seed
• Natural branches, toys, and safe spaces to fly
Harry is slowly rediscovering the joys of life, and we believe he’ll thrive in a home that allows him to relax and enjoy the company of a budgie friend.
Available from Carrum Downs or Scoresby from May 24th 2025
Medical notes
Had suspected air sac mites in April 2025, diagnosis was based on positive response to Ivermectin. There may be permanent damage to his air sacs - this may cause exercise intolerance in the future.
Adoption details
Our adoption process starts with a conversation and a series of questions through email. This allows us to get to know you and your home, and helps us to find the perfect fit.
Once we have picked out a bird for you, there will be a four week foster period where you will trial your new family member. If things don't work out, we can either trial another bird in your home or we can offer a return of adoption fee.
If your new bird fits in well and you wish to be their forever home, then all is well!
