Hi! I’m Dax and I’m looking for a new family to call my own.

NOTE: You are unable to meet Dax until/unless you have been notified that you are a successful applicant. An adoption cannot be approved unless you are able to come to the shelter to meet Dax in person and bring any dogs you currently have with you. 

What I need in my new home: 
- Daily walks, trips to the park or beach, playtime in the backyard 
- Further training with basic doggie manners 
- To be allowed inside with my family 
- A doggie playmate who is gentle and calm may be okay as boisterous dogs scare me so I will require lots of socialisation with positive experiences with other dogs. 
- I have met both female and male dogs at the shelter and get along if they are calm and don't scare me.
- Secure Fencing (6ft Colorbond or equivalent) 
- Lots of toys and mental stimulation 
- A diet of good quality dry food to help keep my teeth clean 
- Lots of love and attention 
- No young children as when I'm excited I get very bouncy and mouthy, older children who will be involved with my training should be ok. 
- I can be shy at first so I need a family who’ll allow me to grow in confidence in my own time 
- I appeared scared of cats when meeting them at the shelter however once my confidence around them grows I might be more inquisitive. If going to a home with a cat they must be dog savvy and we must be introduced slowly. 

Things that I don’t want in my new home: 
- To be left alone in the backyard without any interaction 
- Not to be allowed inside with my family 
- Never to go on a walk or rides in the car 
- Small children due to being mouthy & bouncy  and in the early stages when I am settling in I may be scared accidently by little ones.

My best features: 
- Wiggle butt 
- Highly food motivated 
- I can sit, shake hands
- I have had some basic obedience training and am a generally well-mannered dog 
- I LOVE toys, playing fetch and a game of tug-o-war 
- I love attention, hugs, kisses & head scratches 
 

Where I need to improve / Training required 
- I will require full basic training as I've had not a lot of training experience yet 
- I seem to be nervous/scared of other dogs, so taking me place where I'll interact with dogs in a controlled environment will help me learn to not be scared of them anymore.
- I am shy at first with new people and in new environments so will require a family who will take their time allowing me to settle in and continue on with my socialization 
- I love my food & toys so using them as a positive reward should make my training easier. 
- I appear scared of thunder & fireworks and will bark & whine. I will require a safe space to retreat to during these events as well as comfort and reassurance from my family.  
- I walk well on lead, unless I want to go in another direction, then I tend to pull harder
