Hello! I’m Rio – your new bestie!
I was dumped in the bush with my siblings. Found by chance by some campers, I was taken to a council pound and thankfully, Off The Chain saved us before our time was up! Since they saved us, we have been thriving in foster care!
Temperament
I’m everything you’d expect from a teen—curious, playful, and full of energy! I love exploring, playing with my doggy friends, and soaking up all the cuddles I can get. I have an easygoing nature and will thrive in a home filled with love, structure, and plenty of fun. I live with two older dogs who have lots of energy and like to play! I enjoy chasing them when they play fetch, and I love playing with tennis balls, squeaky toys, and rope toys. I am very responsive to praise as I am a very loyal and sweet dog and will be your new shadow.
Health and Training
I’m in great health and ready to learn all the things I need to know to grow into a well-mannered adult dog. I'm a bit of a mix breed...at just above knee height, I'm not going to be a huge adult, probably only medium-large size. For now we are calling me an 'arab' mix but we really don't know anything other than I'm damn sweet! As a teen, I’m pretty much a blank slate, eager to learn from you. I'm toilet trained, so there might be just a few accidents when I first settle into my new home but that's pretty standard and I'm sure I'll settle in in no time. I'm very food motivated so training is easy peasy! My recall skills are coming along great, I wait for permission before eating, and my basic commands are down-pat. I am learning to sleep in a crate which is becoming my new safe space. Sometimes I get into mischief if you leave me to my own devices (I'm a teen- that's a given right?!) so a crate to keep me secure gives me a safe place to catch up on some z's and also stops me getting too curious about that kitchen bin. My leash skills are great and I travel well in the car.
Personality
I’m a happy-go-lucky pup with a big zest for life! I get along great with kids and other dogs, and I’ll bring so much joy to any household. I love to play with soap bubbles, love my walks, swimming, and snuggles on the couch! I’m playful and energetic but also sweet and affectionate—I’m the perfect mix of fun and love. I love a good game of fetch—though I haven’t quite figured out how to bring the ball back yet; maybe I’m just trying to help you get some exercise too!
Ideal Home
Here’s what I’m hoping for in my forever home:
* A family who brings me inside to be part of the family, especially at night. I'm used to carers who work, but I really love to come in and hang out once you're home.
* A secure yard with at least 5ft fencing to keep me safe.
* A doggy sibling to play with or someone who will spend a lot of time with me- I'm not built for that solo life!
* Regular exercise and mental enrichment—just 10-15 minutes of focused mental stimulation can be as tiring for me as 30-60 minutes of physical exercise!

NEED TRANSPORT?
1. Apply to adopt per the above process.
2. Get quotes and select your desired transporter. We recommend Aeropets, Jetpets, and Dogtainers. Contact us for weights, height etc where needed. We also recommend Pet Waggin pet transport who can assist with road transport.
3. Message or email us to say you have applied and that you will require transport. Tell us which company and a potential departure date from that pet's nearest airport or meet point.
4. If your application is successful, we will lock in a date with you, coordinate any required 'fit to fly' certifications, a food delivery to your home, and appropriate training to make your new pet as comfortable on transport as possible.
5. All adoption contracts, adoption fees, and photo ID must be submitted to us via email before animal boards transport.
We will take into consideration the pet's ability to travel safely and comfortably before agreeing to send them on transport, and expect a high level of care from whatever company is engaged to move the animal.
