About Hutch
Urgent - New foster home or foster to adopt home needed. If you meet Hutch's requirements please inquire.
Hutch's new home requires:
- Another desexed adult dog (not senior or puppy) that has a similar play stamina, is a must.
- Plenty of toys and enrichment toys.
- A family that will include him in family life and outings.
- No children under 15.
- Further training.
- Space where he can eat away from other dogs and people.
- To be allowed inside at times his family is home and to sleep inside of a night.
- Daily exercise outside of the yard is a must.
Hutch is such a loving guy and enjoys as much affection as you'll give, once his physical needs are meet he enjoys snuggles on the couch or in bed with you.
Hutch loves to play with toys, especially squeaky ones, treat balls, and tennis balls are great but once again the squeaky ones are the best. A lick mat with his treats smeared on it also grabs his attention. He loves to play with other dogs with similar energy levels to him and needs to live with another desexed adult dog not a puppy or senior to help teach him manners.
Hutch loves everyone he meets but at times can be too enthusiastic and can get quite excited and jumpy but is learning the key word 'down' motioned with an outstretched palm and he will go off and play. He likes to follow you around to see what you're doing. At the vets he was happy and friendly with the new faces.
Hutch has been around children as young as 5 but is too excited jumpy and occasionally playfully bites. He will need a family with older or no children, continued training will be needed to help him meet people in an appropriate way.
Hutch doesn’t like being touched or handled while he is eating and will need a home that can feed him in his own space where no one will approach or touch him. He is fine and polite while humans eat their food and can be handed food which he takes gently but feeding him in his own space where he feels safe is what is needed. He is receiving training around this with a trainer, who is also happy to speak to the owner with advice, at no cost to his new owner.
Hutch travels well in the car and would love to come with you on errands, markets, cafes and adventures. Hutch is great on the lead but again due to his young age would benefit from further training. Hutch is a very food driven, and happy to please. He picks up on commands quite fast. He's learnt 'sit', 'down' 'Yes', 'No' and 'outside' and is working on 'stay' 'shake' and 'drop'. He would love someone to continue his training or even take him to the local obedience club or dog sports, any of these things will help keep his Border Collie’s smart brain occupied.
Hutch picked up on the toileting expectations very quickly he follows the other dogs lead and associated the door opening to going out to toilet.
During the day Hutch likes to nap under things such as a desk or table or curled up in a corner especially if its near his people. Of an evening, he looks forward to a snuggle on the bed or couch with his person and to sleep inside over night.
Hutch is great around other dogs and enjoys playing with them. His new home definitely needs another adult dog in the home, to help keep him occupied and to be a good role model.
