Malbec is a beautiful, timid and gentle Kelpie who wants his life filled with people who will be kind to him. He can be a little fearful of loud humans and nervous when walking through doorways. Since being in care, Malbec has flourished being part of a family. He absolutely loves humans, and if it was his choice, he would never leave your side.

He is living with an older dog and is very respectful. Malbec is happy to go into his crate at night time and sleep through the night without a noise. He is also happy to lay near you while you relax and settles very easily. He is very good with other dogs and would love having another dog to hang out with. Malbec is learning to walk nicely on the lead, which is going well, and he absolutely loves his walks. Malbec is currently getting 2 walks a day in foster care but he would be happy with one longer walk a day, this is a must ongoing.

Overall, Melbec’s manners are very good. If very excited he may jump up but will sit when asked. He knows sit and we are working on drop and stay. He isn’t food motivated at all but is praise motivated. Good boy goes a long way. He is very gentle when taking treats and sometimes looks confused as to why he is getting so much praise and love.

When on walks he can be very distracted by the world around him and needs more work on engagement. We believe he may not have been on very many walks in his past life, and this is all very new to him.

All in all, Malbec needs a home that will be gentle and patient with him and help him continue to flourish. He will need an active family and a home committed to his ongoing training.
