About Shirley
Hello I’m Shirley. I’m still learning how to trust people, but I’m trying my best.
I’ve had a rough start, so I’m still very scared and cautious around people. I do feel a bit safer around Dorothy, even though sometimes I get overwhelmed and need my own space. We get along most of the time, but I can be grumpy at her when I’m feeling anxious. I haven’t been around cats, so it’s hard to say how I’d do.
I sleep inside a puppy pen where I feel protected and less stressed. During the day, I spend time in the sunroom and I go outside a bit to explore. I’m only left alone for a couple of hours, which is manageable for me.
Meeting new people is very hard for me. I usually bark and try to keep my distance, because I’m just not sure who I can trust yet. I need a patient and understanding person who knows how to help dogs like me feel safe.
My favorite thing is having a soft toy to cuddle with it brings me comfort. Training has been slow, but I’m starting to learn. I’ll stay when told, but I won’t usually sit or come when called unless there’s food involved. I really don’t like being picked up, and I prefer when people give me time and space. I use pee pads to toilet, which helps keep things tidy.
Walking on a lead is still very new to me, and I’m not sure how I feel about it yet. In the yard, I don’t show any strange behaviours I’m usually just focused on staying calm. I can bark though, especially if I’m feeling stressed or unsure. I’ve got bursts of high energy, but once I burn that off, I love to curl up and rest.
Because of my fears I’m not suitable in a home with children, I’ll need a secure fence to make sure I stay safe. I’m not a jumper, but I do need boundaries to feel comfortable. I’ll need someone who’s experienced with helping scared dogs grow in confidence.
I’m slowly starting to trust more, and I really want to find a home where someone will give me the time, love, and patience I need.
I know I’m a work in progress, but I promise there’s a lot of love in me, just waiting for the right person to bring it out.
Love Shirley x
