About Bernard
Hey there, I’m Bernard aka Bernie!
You may remember me as the small but mighty boy who fought Parvo and Won! It’s been a long journey coming from a severe hoarding environment, contracting Parvo and now thriving in my foster home.
I’m a fun-loving, sensitive little guy with a big heart and a soft spot for toys, socks, and snuggles. I might be a bit shy when we first meet, but give me a little time, some gentle pats, and maybe toss me a toy or two—and you’ll see my sweet, goofy side come out in no time.
I’ve met a few dogs and while I can be a little unsure at first, I warm up pretty quickly—especially with dogs my own size as I’m only a tiny 2.85kgs. I’m not really into roughhousing with big rowdy dogs, but I do enjoy the company of a calm and respectful buddy.
At my foster home, I lived with a big, dog-savvy cat, and we got along just fine. I give him space and show respect—no chasing, no barking, just chill vibes. That said, I’d also be totally happy as an only pet. I’m great at keeping myself entertained—my favorite hobbies include tossing toys around, running little zoomies in the yard, and building cozy nests with my soft treasures (more on that later!).
I love my routine. I sleep soundly in my crate inside—it’s my safe space and I usually sleep through the night. During the day, I spend my time either inside with my people or out in the yard. My foster family has a pet door, and I’ve gotten really good at letting myself out to play. I like to know where my humans are though, so I often check in by peeking through the patio door—just making sure you're still around!
I’ve been left alone for up to three hours, and I’m doing really well with it. I usually get a chew treat and have some calming music playing, which helps me settle. I greet my people with a wag and a smile when they come back. The neighbors haven’t heard any barking from me either, so I’m a pretty quiet guy.
I’m doing great with toilet training—I go outside about 90% of the time now! But I’ll be honest… I sometimes mistake floor mats or towels for pee pads, so we’re still working on that.
I’ve also been learning how to walk on a lead. I get super excited when I see my harness come out! I’m still a bit nervous around other people or dogs when we’re walking, but every day I get a little braver. I’ve been practicing my “sit” and learning what “no” means too. I’m a smart pup, and I love learning—especially when there’s a treat involved.
Quirks? I’ve got 'em—and they’re adorable. One of the funniest things I do is collect stuff. I LOVE soft toys, but I’ll also sneak off with socks, slippers, or shoes to add to my “treasure pile.” Don’t worry—I don’t chew them, I just like to have them nearby. It’s like my own little collection of comfort items.
I’d do best in a home I can be mostly indoors, with older kids (12+), someone who understands that I need a bit of time to feel safe, and a secure yard where I can play freely on occasion. Whether I’m your only pet or joining a gentle furry friend, I’ll thrive in a home full of love and patience. Once I trust you, I’ll be your shadow, your snuggle buddy, and your loyal little pal.
If you’ve got an open mind, a bit of patience & a whole bunch of love, I promise to be your loyal, loving, quirky companion. Let’s play fetch… and maybe go sock hunting!
Love Bernie x
