About Belle
Belle came into the shelter 4 months ago after being rescued from living on the streets. At 16 years of age, she was severely underweight and suffering from both chronic arthritis and untreated hyperthyroidism.
We did our best to keep Belle as comfortable as possible with pain relief for her arthritis and managing her thyroid condition with medication, but it soon became obvious that Belle was struggling in the shelter.
Despite the cattery being heated, our cats have access to enclosed outdoor areas, which means that the cold air does get in, and poor Belle was likely feeling it more than most in her old age. And as if that wasn't enough to make her cranky, Belle has a strong dislike for other animals, so constantly being surrounded by other cats made things much more challenging.
Seeing that Belle's overall quality of life was deteriorating, we made the decision to move her into our office where she has a nice, warm bed and only humans to share her space with. She is now noticeably a much happier cat who enjoys being close to people, sitting on their laps and receiving lots of pats (though she does certainly still get cranky and will let you know if you touch her the wrong way).
Seeing the change this has made in Belle really shows just how desperate she is for a warm, loving home to live out the rest of her days, and we'd love to see it happen for her as soon as possible.
Since her initial diagnosis, Belle has also been diagnosed with grade 2 kidney disease for which she will need a special renal diet.
We can't be sure just how long Belle will have left with us, so we are looking for that special someone who will give her the best, most loving and dignified final chapter, however long that may be.
If you have a pet free home and the space in your life for a sweet and spicy old lady, please give us a call on 9722 1265 to meet Belle!
