About Lucy
LUCY SEEKING A FOSTER TO ADOPT / FOREVER HOME
💛 Meet Lucy – Our Beautiful Senior Lady on a Journey to Better Health 💛
Lucy is a loving and affectionate 11-year-old Labrador who craves attention and affection - she may not have had much in her past. Lucy has a friendly and sweet nature and loves to greet people and dogs on her walks.
Lucy was found wandering the streets with her brother Harper (also in care) and was sadly not reclaimed. Since being rescued from the pound, Lucy has been steadily making progress on her journey to better health, weight loss and happiness.
When Lucy arrived, she was severley overweight, weighing over 46-47 kg, you can imagine the impact this was having on her already burdened joints, not to mention the pain and disomfort.
Lucy has pressure sores on her elbows, ankles and toes, which is consistent to being kept confined in a small space, unable to move freely and stretch, leading to muscle wastage. Her muscles are so tight her lower back would be causing her pain.
We wanted to help Lucy, so we put her on a healthy diet, rich in protein, veggies, probiotics and supplements to support her joint health. Lucy is now down to 42.7 kg. Her weight loss has been slow and steady but we are making progress and she will begin to feel better as she gets closer to her ideal weight of approx 33-35 kg.

Lucy is currently living in her foster home with her foster mum & dad and Archie, their 9 year old Golden Retriever who she adores, and vice versa. Lucy is finally learning what it means to be truly cared for. Lucy is ready to find her forever humans where she can bond with her new family while we continue to help build her strength with you. Lucy deserves a home to call her own and a place to live out the rest of her twilight years
Lucy has a gentle, curious nature and enjoys the company of people and other dogs. As with all new arrivals, Lucy loves to be close to her family when they are home, but she is also happy to stay home while you go shopping and run errands. Lucy loves her car rides so much, she will make a dash for the car if she sees you leaving 😃
Lucy also enjoys a cuddle on the couch if she is allowed.
Lucy spent a short time living with Ash, the resident cat while in our care, while she is curious about Ash, she was happy to keep her distance as she wasn't sure what all the Meowing was all about 😃
Ideal Home
Lucy’s ideal home would be a single-story house with easy access to a secure yard for toileting and pondering. Lucy is still building her confidence and prefers someone to accompany her when going outside to toilet - this is likely a response to past trauma or fear of being left alone but we believe this will get better with time, as she setttles in to her forever home. Regular walks outside in the garden would help Lucy in the beginning and set her up for success.
Diet, Supplements & Joint Health
Lucy's diet consists of a healthy balance of meat, fish, poultry, vegetables, and rice, probiotic, with occasional bones and treats.
Yoghurt with berries on a lickmat is also a favourite
Lucy receives monthly Pentasan injections to help reduce the inflamation in her joints as we continue to work on her weight loss. She is also on Antinol Rapid daily to support her joints and overall well-being.
Exercise
Lucy enjoys short 15 - 20-minute “snifari” walks, where she can explore scents and say hello to people and other dogs.
Her exercise is being carefully managed to support her healing and rebuild muscle. To further assist Lucy, Lucy will have some physio exersises to help her stretch her back and release some of that tension in her muscles
Hydrotherapy
Lucy has commenced hydrotherapy sessions to help her get stronger and rebuild muscle in a low-impact way.
Her pain relief has also been adjusted to ensure she is as comfortable as possible as she gains strength and mobility.
Vet notes
Lucy recently had surgery to remove three lumps, one of which was cancerous. Fortunately, the vet has confirmed it was fully removed. As with any dog, She will need continued monitoring, but her outlook is very positive.
Lucy is okay being left alone for short periods, but a family home more often than not is ideal for Lucy, especially while she continues her recovery.
Our vet is located in Malvern East or Glen Eira, and during the foster period, you may be required to take her to any vet appointments as needed, as well as her Hydrotherapy appointments and carry out any exersises recommended by the Physio. The charity will cover all medical costs during this time, which typically lasts 4–6 weeks.
Lucy is now ready to find her foster-to-adopt home—one where she can bond with her new family while continuing her journey to better health and happiness.
If you feel you can give Lucy the home she deserves and needs, please contact us or complete our Foster to Adopt form below
