Meet Skye – A Sweet, Gentle Soul Looking for a Loving Forever Home
Skye is a beautiful, soft-natured girl who’s learning how to enjoy life one day at a time. At 4yrs old, she’s still figuring things out, but her gentle personality and quiet presence make her incredibly special. Since arriving in foster care, she’s made huge progress and continues to grow more confident and playful each day.
This lovely girl is currently eating Royal Canin medium breed dry food twice a day, with a splash of water and sometimes a bit of cheese as a treat. She can be a little hesitant with meals, but if you sit nearby, she feels more secure and eats more willingly.
Skye walks ‘okay’ on leash and doesn’t mind having the leash put on or off, but she’s very skittish and easily frightened by people or sudden noises. When she feels overwhelmed, she may try to pull toward home. She feels safer when walking alongside another dog and would do best in a home with a calm canine companion.
She’s curious and playful with other dogs once she’s had time to warm up to them. If another dog gets too close too soon, she may growl to communicate her boundaries, but with patience and space, she’ll often come around. The same goes for new people — Skye needs time and understanding to feel safe, and she will thrive with a family who can gently advocate for her comfort.
Skye has learned her name, as well as basic commands like sit and drop. She responds well to consistent, reward-based training using treats. However, she’s less likely to follow commands when she’s feeling anxious or scared. She’s very calm during storms and isn’t bothered by vacuums unless they get too close to her space. Sudden loud noises like a slamming door can startle her, but she doesn’t react aggressively — she just prefers a quiet environment.
Around the house, Skye is quiet and calm. She rarely makes noise, though she did howl a little the first few times she was left alone or crated at night. She loves sleeping on her bed and will often follow you from room to room, quietly keeping you company in the sweetest way. While she hasn’t interacted with young children in care, she’s shown herself to be kind-natured and respectful of space.
Skye has a few quirky habits — she’s known to nibble on soft foam or potting soil if it’s left within reach, and she does like to mark, so early toilet training and supervision are important. That said, she’s fully housetrained, holds her bladder well, and sleeps soundly in her crate at night.
She travels beautifully in the car, especially when someone is sitting beside her. She’s calm and generally lies down or sits quietly for the ride. Dog parks haven’t been part of her routine yet, due to her fear of unfamiliar people and loud environments, but she loves running around and playing chase in the backyard — especially with another dog to help bring out her playful side.
The most rewarding part of fostering Skye has been watching her blossom. From a nervous, unsure girl to one who follows her foster carer around the house, seeking gentle connection — it’s been nothing short of amazing. Skye doesn’t have a bad bone in her body. She’s simply a girl who needs patience, kindness, and time to feel safe. Once she trusts you, she gives her whole heart.
Skye would do best in a quiet home with a secure yard, a gentle resident dog, and a family who understands that healing takes time. With love and consistency, this sweet soul will make the most devoted and loving companion.
Skye is an angel — truly one of the sweetest dogs we’ve had the pleasure of helping. Whoever welcomes her home will be gaining a loyal and gentle friend for life.
