Meet Shaniqua,
Shaniqua is a happy-go-lucky pup who will brighten your days and keep life interesting. This gorgeous girl is as friendly as they come – she's always up for a chat (in tail wags, of course), loves making new friends, and can’t wait to meet you! Whether you’re a first-time dog owner or a seasoned pro, Shaniqua is an easy going sweetheart who’s adaptable to all kinds of households. Big family? Quiet home? Busy lifestyle? She’s cool with it all.
Shaniqua is a clever cookie with a curious nature and a little sparkle in her eye – she’s excited to explore the world by your side. She’s gentle and independent, but she’s also super social and loves being part of the fun. Sometimes she’s full of beans and ready for an adventure, and other times you’ll catch her snoozing in the sun like a total queen.
She’d thrive with an active person or family who’ll include her in daily adventures, but she’s also perfectly happy to settle in for some chill time at home.
Ideal Home: Shaniqua is suitable to live in a standalone home or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard & high, secure fencing.
Family: Shaniqua is open to meet kids of any age. Shaniqua is also fine to spend time in the yard on her own, but would love the opportunity to be inside with her new family, too. She can spend most of her time alone, as she is comfy being by herself. She is fine to live with people who work full-time.
Furry Friends: Shaniqua is best to be the only dog in the home. Although she is fine to be walked past other dogs, once another dog enters her space she becomes uncomfortable. Although Shaniqua previously lived with another dog it’s common for a dog that has lived peacefully with another dog at home to become reactive in a shelter environment due to change in routine, different socialisation experiences and more.
As we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure how Shaniqua would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Shaniqua would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. She's a resilient dog who doesn't need much work put into her apart from her jumping but she only does this when she is excited - usually when meeting new people. She knows her commands and is very trainable. With additional training and time to settle into a new home and new routine, Shaniqua could be the kind of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social setting.
Shaniqua knows her name, and she also knows commands such as: sit & drop. She is food motivated and is known to be gentle when taking treats from you - so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea -but she can be a little fussy when it comes to the types of treats.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Shaniqua has mid-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise or walks from 20-30mins a day to keep her happy & content. Shaniqua shows some interest in playing with toys but she really enjoys personal play & interaction with her handlers.
Shaniqua walks well on a lead - only pulling a little bit. She is fine to be walked on any walking apparatus.
Staff Comments: Shaniqua is a very sweet girl who is gentle natured and affectionate. She loves to meet you & be friends. She would be a great addition into any household and will make an excellent family member. She also loves to cuddle!

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
The adoption fee for dogs covers C5 vaccination, health check, heartworm testing, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
The adoption fee for cats covers F3 vaccination, health check, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
