Meet Tawny,
If you're no stranger to the world of bouncy Labradors or lively, high-energy pups, then Tawny might just be your perfect match. This lovely lady is all about big tail wags, full-body wiggles, and living life with a whole lot of sparkle!
Tawny is a happy, affectionate girl with a whole lot of personality. She's confident, playful, and super social - ready to be part of whatever fun you've got planned. She's also got a bit of that classic Labrador goofiness that’ll have you smiling on the daily.
While she's friendly and agreeable, she does have her moments of independence and can be a little aloof sometimes - it's just part of her charm. She's best suited to experienced dog owners who know how to keep a smart, energetic pup like her engaged and happy. An active home where she can be included in regular outings, adventures, or even just backyard zoomies would be ideal!
Tawny is adaptable and would fit into many home types, but a quieter household might suit her best as she settles in. She’s a boisterous sweetheart who’s looking for people who get her vibe, and can keep up with her tail-wagging enthusiasm.
Ideal Home: Tawny is suitable to live in a standalone home or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard & high, secure fencing.
Family: Tawny is open to meet kids from 5yrs & up, this is because she plays like a puppy and may unintentionally knock over smaller kids during playtime.
Tawny is fine to spend time in the yard on her own, but she would also appreciate being included, indoors, with her new family. She is best suited to live with people who work part-time hours, or are home more often than not.
Furry Friends: Tawny is open to meet other dogs. Tawny previously lived with another dog, too. During her dog assessment she was very excited to meet the other dog. She's a confident girl, who showed no signs of uncertainty. She was very calm when meeting the other dog (unusual for this bouncy girl) and she was respectful to the other dog, too. Both dogs exchanged sniffs & play bows. Tawny is friendly towards other dogs and would do well with another dog who matches her excitable energy, or who is comfy with an excited, playful dog.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Tawny would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Tawny would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. Group classes would also be good to ensure that the doggo social skills that she already has don't get rusty. Enlisting the help of a pro trainer would be good to help Tawny with her jumping.
With time to settle & ongoing training, Tawny could be the type of dog that you could take to a dog friend café or social setting.
Tawny is still learning her name, but she knows commands such as: sit. We know deep down that she is smart but she is a very excited girl. She is not overly food motivated but when she does take treats, she does so gently - so, having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Tawny has mid to high-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 30-60mins every day to keep her healthy & satisfied. Tawny doesn't really show interest in playing with toys, she prefers & enjoys personal play with her handlers & other dogs.
Tawny walks well on lead, and she doesn't really pull, but can jump a little sometimes from excitement. She is best to be walked on a collar & lead, or harness.
Staff Comments: Tawny is a lively girl who would do well with a patient owner whose dedicated to her training. She has LOADS of potential to be the perfect pooch but will need some additional support - she's a dog who adores everyone she meets & the world is very exciting to her! Tawny loves people and if she could live in your lap getting pats forever then she would. She thrives on attention. She is the perfect cuddle buddy, too.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
The adoption fee for dogs covers C5 vaccination, health check, heartworm testing, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
