About Giga
Meet Giga - A Sensitive, Intelligent Companion Seeking a Calm and Understanding Home!
Giga is a sweet and complex individual who is looking for a patient and experienced adopter to help him thrive. While he may not actively seek out affection from new people, Giga does enjoy gentle interactions on his own terms and has shown that, with time and trust, he can form meaningful bonds. Once comfortable, he will lean in for a bum scratch, carry his favourite toy with pride, and check in with his handler during walks.
Giga is highly food motivated and responds well to positive reinforcement, making him a promising candidate for ongoing training. He knows "sit," enjoys enrichment activities, and is particularly fond of toys, which he often carries during his daily outings. On walks, he can pull ahead and engages in frequent scent-marking, demonstrating his curious and active nature.
Giga has a history of handling sensitivities, particularly when approached by unfamiliar people while restrained or in confined spaces. These behaviours appear to be fear-based and situational. He may become defensive if he feels cornered or unable to move away from perceived threats. For this reason, it is important that Giga not be tied up in public or placed in situations where he cannot choose to disengage.
A behaviour management plan that focuses on consent-based handling, predictable routines, and gradual desensitisation is strongly recommended. Giga has made significant progress when treated with patience, consistency, and kindness.
While Giga has shown interest in engaging with other dogs, his social skills are underdeveloped. He has been pushy during on-lead greetings and has attempted to hump. He has previously lived with another dog but did not get along, and as such, he is best suited to a home where he will be the only dog.
If you think Giga could be the one for you, please get-in-touch with RSPCA Peninsula!
