About Birdie - 10 Week Old Jack Russell X Fox Terrier
At just 10 weeks old and tipping the scales at around 3.5kg, Birdie is a tiny bundle of sweetness with the world’s happiest little tail. She’s a Jack Russell, likely with some Mini Foxy in the mix - a petite pup with a big heart and an even bigger desire to make friends (dog or human).
A total heart melter, every move she makes is irresistibly cute – whether it be play, focus or chill.
She has a gentle, sunny nature and a huge enthusiasm for life. She’s not super pushy or over-the-top - just a lovely dose of genuine, joyful puppy energy.
She’s already showing early signs of being very social with other dogs, happily trying to befriend anyone she meets - whether they’re ten times her size or smaller than she is. Her small size and delicate build mean she’ll do best in a home where she’ll be kept safe from rough play or big, bouncy pets - but she'd absolutely love a doggy friend who is calm, plays gently and has zero aggression.
Birdie is looking for a forever home that will offer her the love, safety and structure she’ll need to thrive as she grows up.
Because Birdie is still so young, her future forever home will require the time, patience and commitment to guide her through puppyhood - including toilet training, basic manners, and positive exposure to the big wide world. In return, they’ll get the most lovable little shadow who’s guaranteed to bring laughter and love into their lives every single day.
Birdie is NOT suited to:
- Being left along without a human or doggy sibling
- Apartment living – typical of her breed, she is adventurous and loves grass and garden play
- Older or mobile restrictive applicants – she is definitely a trip hazard! Very good at slipping under your feet.
- Children under 5 years old.
Is your yard/property suitable for Birdie?
As part of the application process Dog Rescue Newcastle will conduct a physical, on-site yard check to determine if the yard is escape-proof, safe and suitable for the dog you are applying for. Given Birdie’s small size, gaps bigger than 5-6cm will not pass; and temporary fixes are not acceptable.
Yard check :
- Fencing is secure with no under-fence gaps, dig points or paling gaps bigger than ~6cm
- Safe to roam without hazards such as rubble/rubbish, building materials, sharp objects, barbed fences, long/unkept gardens and lawns that may obscure
Please apply ONLY if you can meet ALL requirements.
IMPORTANT: Before submitting an adoption application consider Birdie’s suitability to your home and ensure everyone in the household is onboard and committed to her transition into your home and her ongoing care and needs.
Birdie's adoption fee is $800 and includes desexing when she is old enough. It also includes her first two vaccinations. She has been treated for fleas and worms and is microchipped.
Birdie is in foster care in Mayfield, NSW. Since she is not yet desexed, she is only available for adoption to the Lower Hunter region (Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens, Maitland, and Cessnock) plus the Central Coast and Sydney. She’ll need to be returned to one of our approved vets for desexing when she’s 5 to 6 months old.
