Meet Basil!

His owner was unable to provide enough time and care for this boy who was very shut down and had little to no socialisation exposure to the world. Basil has spent some time in our, behaviour department and he's now ready to start living the life he deserves.

In the behaviour program he learnt how to interact with people, feel more comfortable receiving affection and learning basic skills such as walking on lead, exploring new environments, enrichment strategies and listening to different sounds with the support of his trainer. This was both in the shelter and in his trainer's home for further support. He has also been able to go into foster after his successful behaviour program where he can receive more consistent training, learning home routines, and time away from the stressful shelter environment.

In Basil's ideal home this would look like: a family with either young or teenage children, he would benefit from having a dog friend, owners who don't work full time so he can continue to build his confidence with people & able to be an indoor/outdoor dog. His new owners will need to be understanding and patient with him as he adjusts to his new family and home. He is still slightly unsure of overhandling so if there are children in the home, they will also need to be reminded that he needs a little more time to get to know you before receiving hugs that he'll love in the future!

As Basil was in the Lost Dogs' Home behaviour program, you will receive ongoing communication and support from his trainer. He is also on behavioural medication to help ease his transition to home life. It's highly recommended that he continues to have this assistance, so he is able to feel more comfortable and transition into the home more smoothly. His trainer and our behaviour vet onsite will offer free of charge 4 weeks' worth of medication at adoption, we will catch up with you before the 4 weeks to discuss any concerns or questions you may have and then provide you with a further 6-month prescription.

Basil's new adopters will also need to be aware of some ongoing, but manageable medical conditions that he has. Currently Basil is receiving treatment for an ear infection, so The Lost Dogs Home will provide you with some medication to continue Basil's treatment for this and help keep him comfortable and happy!
In addition to this, Basil also has pre-existing, likely congenital over-bite, and has a couple of teeth that may need removal in the future. Our Primary Care clinic are offering his adopters a 50% off voucher to assist with this procedure, if this is required in future. Our wonderful adoption & vet team can help guide you through this, if you have any further questions.
