About Willow
Our beautiful Willow is ready to find the loving home that she deserves <3
1 year old, Willow, found herself in the pound, abandoned in a council “drop box,” her owners speeding away before anyone could speak to them.
Sadly, this is not an uncommon occurrence, but Willow was far from an ordinary dog.
Born without eyes, Willow’s “eyes” were open, but her eye sockets were completely empty, meaning that she was totally blind.
Pound staff reached out to us to see if we could help Willow, and we are certainly glad that we said yes!
First step for Willow was major surgery to remove any tissue and closer her eyes permanently. Leaving her with open sockets could lead to infection or injury that could penetrate her brain, so this was done as a matter of urgency. Willow went into surgery with zero vision and came out the same way, but we knew that nothing could stop this girl, and she handled the major surgery brilliantly.
Willow is an amazing dog! She has never had the gift of sight, but she navigates her world extremely well. She “watches” whatever is going on (she actually looks at things and you forget that she has no eyes!).
Willow absolutely loves other dogs of all shapes and sizes and would love a playful doggie sibling or even a bunch of canine friends in her new home. She has met dogs ranging from 2 kg to 40 kg and she adores each and every one of them.
Willow is also extremely cat friendly. She is currently in foster with numerous cats, all of whom have very different personalities and dog tolerance and she is completely safe with all of them, even if she does get told off by the cranky ones.
Willow has had interactions with poultry, resulting in her being attacked by a goose and whilst the humans found it hilarious to see a big dog running away from a goose, I can assure you that Willow never even looked like retaliating.
Willow also loves kids but she does tend to get super excited and jump up a bit so she would be best suited to a home with older kids as she could accidentally knock little ones over.
Willow loves the couch and to be wherever her humans are. Despite her blindness, she is confident and happy and playful. She loves toys and surprisingly, she really likes to go for walks!
Weighing in at around 30 kg, Willow’s breed combination is unknown, but she is possibly part Catahoula or Great Dane.
If you are looking for the most goofy, happy, playful, special, social, outgoing, good natured, lovely dog (and you don’t mind her occasionally walking into stuff), Willow is the missing piece of your family.
I honestly cannot speak highly enough of this beautiful girl.
