Meet Skye – A Beautiful, Energetic Girl Looking for Her Forever Home!
Skye is a beautiful, intelligent and affectionate girl with a huge personality and an even bigger heart. She is an energetic dog who loves life, but behind all that excitement is a genuinely sweet and loyal girl who adores her people.
Skye is incredibly loving and snuggly. She loves curling up beside you on the couch, resting her head on your legs and watching the world go by. She happily moves between her humans looking for pats and cuddles and has a wonderfully funny personality—especially when she decides she deserves a share of your food!
She is also a very clever and strong-willed girl. Skye knows her basic commands including sit, drop and stay, although she can sometimes be quite determined to do things her own way! She needs someone who is calm, confident and consistent, with clear boundaries and the ability to follow through with her training.
Skye's energy and exercise
Skye is an energetic girl who needs plenty of physical and mental stimulation. She enjoys long walks and has discovered that she absolutely loves going for a jog. She happily trots alongside her foster dad for 3–4 km and seems to immediately understand that jogging is the task at hand.
She also loves her toys, particularly textured toys and shredder toys that she can pull apart. Food-filled enrichment toys are a great way to keep her busy and mentally stimulated.
Skye is house trained and has no accidents inside. She travels very well in the car and has no issues with car travel.
Skye's training needs
Skye has made progress with her mouthing, but this remains an ongoing challenge. When walking around calmly, she may give small nips, particularly towards fingers or hands. When she becomes highly excited, however, she can become very excitable and may mouth at different parts of the body.
She can also jump up and use her paws and claws when excited. This behaviour needs to be managed carefully and consistently, and her new family should be prepared to continue working with a qualified trainer. A calm, confident handler who understands how to manage an excitable, strong-willed dog will be very important for Skye.
Skye has also recently developed reactivity towards other dogs. She is currently not suitable for homes with other dogs.
When dogs are at a distance, Skye can be redirected more easily, and her foster family has worked hard on helping her focus. However, as another dog gets closer, her behaviour can escalate significantly. She can be difficult to physically manage when around other dogs, so her new family will need to have the confidence and skills to safely manage her behaviour.
For this reason, Skye needs an experienced home that is committed to professional training and careful management.
Skye and other animals
Interestingly, Skye is doing very well with the cats in her foster home. She was initially very interested in them and could become fixated, but she has improved significantly as she has become more accustomed to their presence. She is learning to disengage and is becoming increasingly comfortable seeing the cats move around and play.
However, because she can be highly excitable, any interactions with cats would still need to be supervised and managed appropriately.
Skye is not suitable for a home with children, as her excitement, jumping and mouthing are currently too much for a child to safely manage.
Skye's ideal home
Skye needs a calm, structured and experienced home with someone who is confident handling a strong, energetic and excitable dog.
Her ideal family will:
Be confident setting and maintaining clear boundaries.
Have experience with energetic or strong-willed dogs.
Be committed to ongoing professional training.
Provide daily long walks, runs and plenty of mental stimulation.
Be prepared to manage her reactivity around other dogs.
Understand that her mouthing and jumping are ongoing training priorities.
Be happy for Skye to be the only dog in the home.
Provide a predictable routine and plenty of positive interaction.
Skye isn't a dog for someone looking for an easy, low-maintenance companion—but there is an absolutely beautiful soul underneath all that excitement.
She is affectionate, funny, intelligent and incredibly loyal. Once she's settled beside you on the couch, she'll happily curl up in the nook of your legs, rest her head on you and simply enjoy being close to her people.
Skye has plenty of work still to do, but with the right person, structure, patience and professional guidance, she has every opportunity to continue growing into the wonderful companion we know she can be.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped,
wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals,
surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm
testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If
a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.

No known pre-existing conditions. Weight: 36kg.
Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.
