About Tootsie SUA013154
Meet Tootsie, a stunning feline with a heart of gold, ready to find a loving human companion. Though she arrived as a frightened stray, Tootsie's journey toward trust and companionship is filled with heartwarming potential. Her mesmerizing eyes and elegant demeanor are just the beginning of what makes her special.
Tootsie thrives in a quiet, routine-oriented home where she can feel secure without the hustle and bustle of children, dogs, or frequent visitors. While she can be nervous and is quite sensitive to loud noises, her love for treats is a delightful window into winning her trust. A gentle hand and calm presence will help Tootsie blossom into the loving companion she's meant to be.
In her quiet moments, Tootsie loves to play, with her soft toy bird being her favorite. It's heartwarming to watch her toss it in the air, her playful spirit shining through. Her unique blend of cautiousness and playfulness makes her an intriguing and endearing companion.
From her foster home -
Tootsie experiences a lot of fear and anxiety in new situations. She manages these situations by hiding, or if she can’t, by sitting still in the corner. She stays in this state much longer than many other cats. For Tootsie the process to feeling safe is slow. She was extremely fearful for the first few weeks. But, given time, she gradually came out of her shell, making small progressions gradually over time. At first this was two steps forward, one back but after nine weeks in my home she is able to not only have a good quality of life but is extremely playful and very social with me.
While it took some time to discover it; Tootsie is extremely playful and energetic and loves toys. She is great at entertaining herself with her toys, chasing her own tail, zooming around the flat and playing with me. I can see why someone chose the name Tootsie - she loves toes! Human toes. She plays with moving feet from above the bed covers or waits in hiding under the bed until you stand beside the bed, then unexpectedly swipes at your toes from under the bed!
She is very affectionate and purrs loudly when scratched under the chin and joins me on the bed in the morning for pats and to play. She seems to like to bite my hair/head (not so it hurts) very early in the morning while I am still asleep! She is a social cat, and will come up to me to be pat many times throughout the day, but her fearfulness means that she has to be in control of the situation. She tolerates but doesn’t like being picked up. It has only been in the last few days that I have seen her falling asleep in front of me in the same room when I am awake.
While after nine weeks she is has transformed compared to what she was like when she first came to stay – she still hides more than most cats. Mostly just under a chair or the clothes drying rack, where she can still be seen in part, but occasionally if something scares her she will properly hide. She shows no interest in going outside and for a long time hid every time the door was opened as I got home or went out (though she does not now). She looks out the window a lot but seems fearful of what may come in the door from outside.

Adoption details
Simply note the ID number and the cats name and visit our hostel at 200 Elder Street in Greensborough. Alternatively you can call the hostel on 8457 6500. We are currently open Mon-Fri 10am-4pm / Sat-Sun 10am-3pm.
You should bring proof of your current address and preferably photo identification such as your driving license. You can only adopt a cat for yourself we do not allow animals to leave with third parties. If you are wishing to adopt a cat as a present for someone, bring them with you as cats are individuals and bond with different people in different ways, the cat you may choose, may not choose your friend! It is also important to allocate time for adoption and we recommend you allow at least a couple of hours to get to know the cat and do the necessary paperwork.
When you visit you will get to meet the cat and as this is a very important decision for both you and the cat you choose we will want to ensure the two of you are compatible and that you understand what will be involved in taking the cat into your home.
We will want to be satisfied that you are prepared to be a responsible pet owner. Responsible pet owners at the most basic level, have their pets registered, micro-chipped and de-sexed unless they are registered breeders. They also understand the issues involved in being able to properly care and take responsibility for the welfare of their pets. Most Councils in Victoria have limits on the numbers of cats you may own without a permit. It is important to check with your Council if you already own the limit and obtain a permit for the extra cat before adoption. We will require to see your permit.
We will answer any questions you have regarding cat care and help you to obtain any support you may need.
