About Katie
UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR PETS WITHIN WESTERN AUSTRALIA OR INTERSTATE
**Before applying, please remember that adopting a puppy into your home is a huge commitment, and very demanding of your time. Puppies require daily exercise, positive and varied socialisation, grooming, training and playtime. When applying, please consider your work hours, holidays, and how busy your personal life is. Puppies will need someone who is home for most of the day with regular focused input, especially in those first six months after adoption **

NAME: Katie (Adoption fee $860 includes all vet work)
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance as an owner surrender with her 2 siblings.
BREED: American Staffordshire Terrier x Mastiff x
BREED TRAITS: American Staffordshire Terriers are high energy, playful, affectionate and intelligent but do require training as they can be headstrong. They are very social with adults and children and are extremely loyal but can suffer from separation anxiety if left for long periods and not raised with good training to grow confidence. Their sociability with dogs is a facet that needs sensible and careful work from an early age.
************************************************************************
ASSETS: Easy going, affectionate, friendly, confident, active, playful and very sweet! She loves everyone she has met so far in her life!
FAVOURITE THINGS: Katie loves to be outside exploring and running around with her siblings and playing tug with a rope, then when she’s had enough, she’s happy to curl up for a cuddle with her person. She also loves to hide in cardboard boxes and once she’s finished with it will chew it up. Katie is also a water baby and loves to get under the garden sprinkler for a hose down! She is a typical puppy with bursts of energy where she plays for a while then settles down for a snooze before waking up and doing it all over again!
ENDEARING FEATURES: Katie is very cute and loving. She loves to curl up with her sister for a sleep and can be cheeky at times and try to escape from the garden so she can explore elsewhere.
OTHER ANIMALS: Being a young puppy, she will get on well with other friendly dogs after gentle, supervised introductions. She seems to enjoy having other dogs around for the company so would benefit from having another friendly, playful dog in her new home. Katie hasn't experienced a cat so far but is young enough, with the correct introduction, to live with a dog-savvy, confident cat.
GENERAL INFO: Katie will need training for pretty much everything being so young, but her command training is going well, and she is now familiar with most commands. Housetraining is underway but she still has some way to go to master it. Expect accidents while she’s settling into her new home and routine! She’ll benefit greatly from puppy school and ongoing classes into adulthood where she can mix with other dogs, and this is a commitment we will expect from her new owner. She rarely barks, doesn’t like loud noises and has a medium energy level at present. Katie is crate trained and knows that it’s her safe space.
ESSENTIALS for Katie:
** a loving home where someone is there for most of the day, essential in the first six months after adoption
** a home where she is treated as part of the family and is allowed to be inside or out as she needs and to sleep inside at night
** a decent sized, well fenced garden where she can run, play, sniff and explore in safety
** attendance at puppy school and continued training into adulthood for her to learn and grow confidence – essential
** continued positive, gentle exposure and socialisation
Katie will have bursts of energy while a pup and we envisage will be medium to high energy at times as an adult dog.
Katie could live with dog-savvy gentle children over 8 years of age, who will engage with her respectfully but also know when to give her space.
