About Koltyn
UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR PETS WITHIN WESTERN AUSTRALIA OR INTERSTATE
**Before applying, please remember that adopting a puppy into your home is a huge commitment, and very demanding of your time. Puppies require daily exercise, positive and varied socialisation, grooming, training and playtime. When applying, please consider your work hours, holidays, and how busy your personal life is. Puppies will need someone who is home for most of the day with regular focused input, especially in those first six months after adoption **

NAME: Koltyn (Adoption fee: $860 including all vet work)
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance as an owner surrender with his 2 siblings.
BREED: American Staffordshire Terrier x Mastiff x
BREED TRAITS: American Staffordshire Terriers are high energy, playful, affectionate and intelligent but do require training as they can be headstrong. They are very social with adults and children and are extremely loyal but can suffer from separation anxiety if left for long periods and not raised with good training to grow confidence. Their sociability with dogs is a facet that needs sensible and careful work from an early age.
************************************************************************
ASSETS: Easy going, affectionate, friendly, confident, active, playful and very sweet! He is the biggest and most assertive puppy in his litter.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Koltyn loves to be outside exploring, running around with his siblings and playing tug with a rope, then when he’s had enough, he’s happy to curl up for a cuddle with his person. He also loves to grab a toy and make his sisters chase after him and loves to climb on things when he’s being chased. He has a playful destructive streak in him too and is like a bull in a China shop at times. He is a typical puppy with bursts of energy where he plays for a while then settles down for a snooze before waking up and doing it all over again!
ENDEARING FEATURES: Koltyn is very cute and extremely loving. He does a really sweet pounce onto his toys to claim them as his own and loves to receive shoulder massages!
OTHER ANIMALS: Being a young puppy, he gets on well with other dogs with gentle introduction. He plays and interacts well with his siblings. Koltyn hasn't been cat tested.
GENERAL INFO: Koltyn would benefit from being the only dog in his new home - even though assertive he can be insecure and would benefit from focused input from his new owner to guide him and build his confidence. His carer has done an excellent job setting a routine with play, rest, eating and sleeping and Koltyn would benefit from this routine being continued, this will assist with setting good boundaries and growing confidence in the home. Koltyn's training is going well and he is now familiar with some commands. Housetraining is underway and with his routine he has pretty well mastered it although expect a few accidents while he’s settling into his new home! He’ll benefit greatly from puppy school and ongoing classes into adulthood and this is a commitment we will expect from his new owner. He rarely barks, doesn’t like loud noises or storms and has a medium energy level at present. Koltyn is crate trained and knows that it’s his safe space.
ESSENTIALS for Koltyn:
** a loving home where someone is there for most of the day, essential in the first six months after adoption
** a home where he is treated as part of the family and is allowed to be inside or out as he needs and to sleep inside at night
** a decent sized, well fenced garden where he can run, play, sniff and explore in safety
** attendance at puppy school and continued training into adulthood for him to learn and grow confidence – essential
** continued positive, gentle exposure and socialisation
Koltyn will have bursts of energy while a pup and we envisage will be medium to high energy at times as an adult dog.
Koltyn would be best suited to an adult home or with respectful dog-savvy teenagers who can be calm around him - Koltyn finds the noise and movement of young children perplexing and unsettling.
If Koltyn sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
