Sweet Cunard is looking for a home with another canine companion, he gets along best with dogs of a similar size and of the opposite sex. A quiet household who don't get many visitors is the best for him as he does not do well with strangers in his space. He will say "hi" depending on whether the other party is gentle towards their approach of him but his future family must understand his quirky personality and must not force interactions with humans.

He will not suit living in an apartment or a small unit block (or inner Melbourne) as he is sensitive to external noise. He enjoys running around the backyard with another dog and thus older dogs that do not want to play will not suit him. The other dog must be prepared for snuggles and a dog who doesn't understand personal space when it comes to a dog that he loves.

Cunard loves going for walks and walks well on the lead. He will willingly come over and put his head through the harness when its time to go walkies. He walks at least 1.5hrs - 2 hours each night and on the weekend goes for hikes in quiet rural areas. He might be little but his legs are mighty and always keen to go for a walk. If not walked, he will get frustrated. Rain or shine we are out there fulfilling his needs. He loves his soft toys and human socks in particular, he doesn't destroy them, just wants you to chase him. A simple treat will make him give that up pretty quickly. He is fully grass trained, uses the doggy door well and is also crate trained. Once he has chosen his humans - he will sleep on the bed with you. Has zero concept of personal space and will not accept getting kicked off.

Grooming - Cunard would prefer his humans to be avid groomers or willing to learn. As he tends to take time to warm to people - sending him to the groomers will be traumatic for him. He will accept grooming from humans he trusts.

Cunard is not a cuddler; while he may be cute and most people want to cuddle him 24/7, he prefers affection on his own terms. He does enjoy sharing a sofa when he is watching TV next to you. While settling in, it is best to work at his pace while gaining his trust. He enjoys having the freedom to walk in and out of the house when he likes and will sometime be outside in the garden on his own, sniffing, digging, sunbaking... Even though he doesn't like cuddles, he doesn't like to be far away from his human and will follow them everywhere. He enjoys car rides, going out everywhere with his people. However, he is not one that can be patted by just anybody- so special care must be taken when he is brought out.

Experienced owners only, he is not suitable for first time owner. He is a one-person dog and although he tends to bond strongly to the female owner of the house, he is warming up to males pretty quickly. He may be ok with older young adults above the age of 16 years old. Again - this will need gentle introductions, non-forceful.

Cunard is situated in Wantirna and will require a few visits to ensure he warms up to his new family - please ensure you are prepared to travel multiple times to win his trust. He has had a hard start in life and does not warm up to strangers easily. It took him 6 months to warm up to fosterer's friends, while this is getting better, future homes must understand that friendship forge will not happen in an instant.
