Meet Vernie. Vernie is a 12-year-old Jack Russell/Fox Terrier mix who did not get the memo about acting his age. He’s got the body of a senior, the energy of a 6-year-old, and the attitude of a tiny retired king who still believes he runs the kingdom.

Walks? Oh, he’s obsessed. Vernie will happily strut for an hour like he’s on a very important mission. Two walks a day? He’ll pack his own bag

When it comes to humans, Vernie is a certified cuddle enthusiast. He loves hanging out, curling up, and supervising your life choices from the comfort of your lap. He’s good with kids, though very tiny humans can confuse him — probably because he thinks he’s the baby of the house.

Other dogs? Absolutely not. Especially small fluffy ones. Vernie believes he’s starring in an action movie and must loudly announce their presence. The good news: it’s all talk, no teeth, and he’s easy to guide away. Big dogs he often ignores, probably because he assumes he’s bigger.

Food? Vernie loves treats with the passion of a thousand suns. Mealtimes, however, are a slow, gourmet experience. He savours every bite like he’s judging a cooking competition you didn’t know you entered.

He rides well in the car, has surprising stamina, and remains convinced he is the main character in every situation.

Vernie’s dream home:
• A quiet house with a small outdoor area (no apartments — he needs space to do his “patrols”)
• Adults or families with respectful kids
• No dogs or cats — Vernie wants exclusive human rights
• Ideally neighbours without dogs, because barking next door triggers his inner drama critic
