About Lisa
Lisa is a 1-year-old kelpie x who came in last July as an unclaimed stray. When she arrived, she was extremely shut down and scared. She wouldn't make eye contact with anyone, and her tail was always tucked under. She found the shelter environment completely overwhelming and would hide under her bed shaking.
Shortly after arriving, Lisa met a volunteer who she immediately trusted, and that day, she left the shelter and went into foster care with her and her 2 dogs and 3 cats. Being in foster care gave Lisa time to decompress, build trust and confidence, and understand what it feels to be safe and loved. Over the weeks and months that followed, day by day, week by week, with routine, structure, love, and patience, Lisa has learnt and continues to learn new life skills. She is also beginning to open up and build trust with other people.
Lisa has gone from not wanting to venture out of her crate, or past the front door, to taking walks to the beach and the bush, along with visits to Bunnings (where she always gets treats). She has also recently, each Thursday, been going to a day school for working dogs, and week by week, her light is beginning to shine brighter. She has visibly grown in confidence, loves playing with the other dogs, and has also built trust with her trainers. We love seeing that more often than not her tails is out and wagging, far more than it is hiding, and she always stands by the door, or the car, eager to go on her next adventure.
Lisa is fully toilet trained and crate trained. She understands the fundamental commands, such as (not limited to) sit, wait, drop, leave, gentle, etc. She is a fetch-a-holic (her favourite pastime), especially when it's a rope toy, but she also loves her tennis balls. Lisa loves her food and is always interested in trying new veggies... cucumber and carrots are her curent fave. She totally adores ice cubes in her puzzle bowl and will often wait at the freezer door, 'hinting' 🤣!
Lisa is super intelligent and can suss out puzzle games in record time... She's dog social and loves her resident bestie 🥰.
Lisa's new family will need to have breed experience, be patient with her development and be totally committed to continuing her ongoing training and socialisation, to build her confidence and allow her to be the best dog that she can be.
Lisa would benefit a home on a property or with a large garden that's away from busy built-up areas with lots of traffic. Whilst Lisa has been living with cats and has shown no aggression, the cats are not a fan of her enthusiasm, nor her version of 'chit-chat', and it would be best for them and her if she goes to a cat free home. She would, however, love a home with another dog.
Lisa's adoption fee is $550 and covers lifetime registration, microchipping, desexing, up to date vaccination, flea & worming treatments, and puppy training.
