Lucy

*We are seeking a foster carer for Lucy, possibly with a view to adopt*

Lucy is a two year old purebred Blue Heeler who is very typical of her breed; active, intelligent, loyal. If you’re a lover of the breed, Lucy is the dog for you!

Lucy has her basic training down pat - she can sit, shake hands, is crate trained and walks well on lead when not distracted. Unfortunately Lucy has been allowed to practice some undesirable behaviours, and has lacked firm boundaries and a proper outlet for her natural instincts. She can be reactive towards other dogs and hesitant when strangers approach her. Since arriving back in to temporary care and given time to decompress, she has improved immensely and is proving to be responsive to guidance from an experienced handler.

Lucy has been through two homes and is now back with a temporary foster carer. We have had a formal assessment of her behaviour done, and she did very well; happily taking food from a stranger and playing with them. They believe she has lacked boundaries in her previous home and been allowed to be pushy to get what she wants. Without boundaries and proper leadership, she had to take the reins causing stress and reactive behaviour.

Lucy needs an experienced carer who knows Blue Heelers and their quirks. She would be fine in a home with other animals but the ability to separate her as needed would be ideal. A quiet suburban or rural location would be ideal (farm fencing ok). Pawfect Pals will pay for professional one-on-one training with her new foster carer.

We know Lucy has the potential to be a great dog for the right person, we just need to help her get there!
