Cazaly is a beautiful, timid and gentle Kelpie (who knew there was one of those) who wants his life filled with people who will be kind to him.
We think Cazaly may not have had the best past life, he is very fearful of people shouting and was very nervous when he was first allowed inside. Since then, Cazaly has flourished being part of a family. He absolutely loves humans, and if it was his choice he would never leave your side.
Cazaly absolutely loves the safety of his crate and will often take himself to bed in the evening to relax or if there is a lot of noise. He is also happy to lay on “place” near you while you relax and settles very easily. Cazaly would ideally still have a crate or safe space away from noise at night (he would love to be in your bedroom, but he isn’t picky). Saying this, Cazaly had no reaction to storms and therefore we think he may just be fearful of some humans shouting or being angry.
Cazaly has spent lots of time outside with other dogs while his foster humans are at work, and he doesn’t cause a stir or bark. Typical kelpie, he likes to chase flies, but we are working on that with distraction techniques and bones for him to chew and this is going really well.
He is very good with other dogs from what we have seen but would also be more than happy to be your one and only. Cazaly is learning to walk nicely on the lead, which is going well, and he absolutely loves being on the long lead on walks along the creek where he can run in the grass (we are still working on recall). Cazaly is currently getting 2 walks a day in foster care but he would be happy with one longer walk a day, this is a must ongoing.
Overall, Cazaly’s manners are pretty good. If very excited he may jump up, but it is always very gentle. He knows sit, stay, lay and place and is eager to learn more. He is very gentle when taking treats and sometimes looks confused as to why he is getting so much praise and love. When on walks he can be very distracted by the world around him and needs more work on engagement. We believe he may not have been on very many walks in his past life, and this is all very new to him.
All in all, Cazaly needs a home that will be gentle and patient with him as we can only guess what his experiences were like. He needs a home committed to his ongoing training (we recommend taking him to a trainer) to increase his confidence.
