About Apache
Apache is a Stumpy tail Australian Cattle Dog which means he has a cute little bobtail and is true to his breed. Full of the Cattle dog intelligence and those gorgeous Heeler True Blue colors Pathy is a sweet and honest boy who will melt your heart.
Allow us to introduce you to our delightful canine companion, Apache, whom we affectionately call Patchy. This charming little pup has captured our hearts with his endearing personality and unique features. Patchy is an absolute sweetheart, known for his short, stumpy tail that he wags with uncontainable excitement. His well-mannered nature makes him a joy to be around, and he is truly an exemplary pup.
Patchy’s list of favorite activities is as varied as it is delightful. He loves nothing more than playing with the resident dogs, engaging in games of tug-of-war, and chasing after toys with boundless energy. Walks in the park are a particular favorite, as they provide him with the opportunity to stretch his legs and perform his signature zoomies. Cuddling is another cherished pastime, and he finds immense satisfaction in chewing on cow hooves.
When it comes to interacting with people, Patchy is a true gem. He has a deep affection for humans and exhibits remarkable politeness for a puppy. He has mastered the art of sitting patiently for a pat and is rarely mouthy or jumpy, making him an ideal companion for children. His little stumpy tail wags enthusiastically when you return home after a day out, and he eagerly welcomes head and belly scratches with affection.
Patchy’s interactions with other animals have been a journey of growth and learning. Initially, he was somewhat cautious and barky around unfamiliar dogs, a common trait among puppies his age. However, through careful introductions to dogs at parks and positive experiences with polite canine companions, he has gained confidence. Although he may occasionally nip when uncomfortable, this behavior is simply a reflection of his unease. Currently, Patchy resides with adult dogs and has become quite comfortable in their presence, developing excellent play skills. We recommend enrolling him in group obedience classes for a few months to further boost his confidence. A calm yet playful female dog would be an excellent influence on him. During mealtime, Patchy is fed alongside other dogs under supervision, and he is learning to eat solely from his own bowl.
In terms of obedience, exposure, and play, Patchy is a little superstar. He thrives on learning new things and is hand-fed some of his meals while working on basic obedience commands. He has already mastered sit, wait, and come, and is making great progress with commands like drop, bed, and crate. His strong food motivation makes training a breeze. Patchy walks beautifully on a leash, rarely pulling, and maintains excellent engagement during walks by frequently checking in. While he did show interest in bikes and cars, we are actively working to deter this behavior and he is showing great progress in ignoring them now. His recall skills are improving, and with continued training, he should have reliable off-leash recall in the future.
Patchy is an enthusiastic player, relishing games of tug and chasing after toys. He takes pride in carrying his favorite toy in his mouth or his food bowl, feeling like a clever boy. Although he has a penchant for stealing shoes, he has not destroyed or chewed them, much to the amusement of his foster mom, who often finds herself searching for the missing runner. As a working breed, Patchy needs to continue developing his play drive, and we suggest interactive games like flirt poles, tug, and chase to meet his needs.
When it comes to sleep, Patchy is a model pup. He sleeps soundly in his crate throughout the night without any issues and patiently waits for you to wake up in the morning. At 10 p.m., he is taken out for a bathroom break before being carried into his crate, where a blanket is placed over it. Although he may whine for a minute, he quickly settles down and drifts off to sleep. He is usually let out of the crate at 7:30 a.m. for another bathroom break.
Inside the house, Patchy is well-behaved, often choosing to nap on the carpet in the evening. While he occasionally jumps on the couch, he is easily redirected to the floor. Like all puppies, he requires supervision indoors to prevent chewing mishaps, but he has been remarkably good in this regard.
Outside, Patchy spends a significant amount of time and thoroughly enjoys it, especially when provided with entertainment such as a cow hoof to chew on. He is content to snooze in the sun alongside the other dogs, occasionally barking during play or at possums, but generally remaining quiet for most of the day.
Patchy is a fan of car travel, as it signals an adventure to the park. He eagerly attempts to climb into the back of the car, putting his paws up, but his legs are still a bit too short to make the jump, so he requires a little assistance to get his bottom half in.
In terms of hygiene and toilet training, Patchy is about 90% house-trained and does exceptionally well when taken out in the morning, evening, and during the day. While occasional accidents may occur, he holds on all night while in his crate. His medium coat is easy to care for, though there will be some shedding. He enjoys being brushed and tolerates baths well.
Patchy’s diet consists of premium puppy food served twice a day, supplemented with raw chicken hearts or chicken carcasses, which he thoroughly enjoys. He will need to continue on puppy food until he reaches 12 months of age.
In terms of an ideal home, Patchy would make a wonderful family dog and would thrive in an environment with children who are dog-savvy and understand canine boundaries. He would do well living with other well-socialized and polite dogs that can handle his puppy energy. A home committed to ongoing training, exposure, and socialization is essential to help him develop into a well-behaved adult dog. A family that includes Patchy in their daily lives and treats him as a beloved family member is crucial. While experience with his breed is ideal, applicants with previous dog experience are encouraged to apply. An active family that provides both physical and mental stimulation through walks and play is ideal. Due to his working breed nature, Patchy requires space, so apartments or courtyards are not suitable. A family that continues to nurture his play drive and engagement during the first two years of development is essential. Children aged 5 and up will be considered due to Patchy’s gentle nature.
