About Iko
Iko is a unique character who really is looking for that 'needle in a haystack' home, and we need all the help we can get to help him find it.
Iko is extremely wary of people he doesn't know. His inner circle consists of a grand total of 7 people, and anyone else, he stays as far away from as possible.
He is particularly wary of men, and completely terrified of children.
It takes A LOT of time and effort to win Iko's trust and for him to feel totally comfortable around you, but once you do, he rewards you with his wonderful, quirky and cheeky personality, which makes it all worth it.
Iko is absolutely a one-person kind of dog. His favourite person in the world is our trainer, and his other 6 friends are very much second tier. He often greets his friends with a cheery 'woo', enjoys a pat and to lean up against you, and loves to destroy a good squeaky toy.
With a lot of time and training, Iko's behaviour may improve, but he will likely always struggle with meeting new people and need to be managed appropriately.
Iko's future home requirements:
- A quiet, single person home (ideally female)
- A well-socialized dog friend of similar size
- Secure 6ft fencing
- Semi-rural area or equivalent (not busy suburbs)
- No cats, pocket pets, or livestock
- Someone who can come in for MANY visits at the shelter to build a relationship before taking him home
If you or someone you know could be the person Iko has been waiting over a year for, please fill out the expression of interest form linked below. If not, please consider sharing his post so it has the chance of reaching his special someone!
